- Business card. Of. The. Summer! You may have just met him…and this could be crazy. But here’s his biz card — call this guy maybe? [Paper]

- Naomi Campbell celebrated her 42nd birthday lighting candles at a church in Jerusalem.
- The Great Gatsby trailer has finally premiered and one thing is obvious: the costumes are great and gasp-y. Trailer after the jump! [Huff Po]

- Aww, Prince William loves his nana, saying of Queen Elizabeth II: I would like to take all of her experiences, all of her knowledge and put it in a small box and to be able to constantly refer to it.” All right, Will, get a room.
- Williams’s dad, meanwhile, loves him two turntables and a microphone. Prince Charles was recently in Toronto where some kids taught him to deejay. Introducing Prince-Mix-A-Lot! [Paper]

- In the words of “Rack City (Remix)” — who that on the pole? Is she that on the pole? It’s Heidi Klum and yes. She is that. The recently divorced super gets in touch with her inner bad bitch for Hunger Magazine.
- Condé Nast is reviving its high-end men’s fashion mag, M, which disappeared from newsstands in the early 90s before the advent of the metrosexual.
- Gisele and Tom Brady are rumored to be expecting their second superhuman spawn after allegedly telling Riccardo Tisci she was two months along so that he could adjust her gown for the Met Ball. [Telegraph]

- And speaking of model babies, Sasha Pivovarova gave birth to daughter Mia Isis and tweeted a picture of her and the newborn out to the world this morn. Welcome to the world…of social media, baby. [The Cut]

- In a clear-cut case of “not letting shit go,” Gucci is now suing Guess in Italy, China and France.
They’re sweeping up at the award shows and stealing everyone’s hearts, and the cast of The Artist is shining under a spotlight that grows brighter each day. But behind the Oscar nod for Best Picture (among many other nominations it has received) is that killer fashion from the 1920s — flapper, avant garde, art deco glam. And The Artist isn’t alone – think about how Midnight in Paris, Boardwalk Empire and soon enough The Great Gatsby are full of 1920s fashion glam. Here are a few ways to channel it.

Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada: On Fashion is the Met Costume Institute‘s next undertaking after the rip-roaring success of Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty. The exhibit will feature imagined conversations with the two iconic Italians on various subjects, from art and politics to women and creativity.

By juxtaposing Schiaparelli’s and Prada’s viewpoints on these topics, museum curators Andrew Bolton and Harold Koda hope to create a dialogue between the designers:

“If we can play with that idea of what Schiap would say, with her real words, and what Miuccia would say, in her real words, on a variety of issues,” Koda explained, “we could end up with something that was a mind-teaser for the audience, and would allow people to see Schiap with increased relevance and Miuccia with a different kind of understanding than they perhaps already have. We want it to be serious in content but playful in its approach.”

This approach will certainly be playful considering who the Met has in charge of the production and design: no other than that master of the spectacular spectacle, Baz Luhrmann. According to Koda, the exhibit will have “a very high-tech aspect” so as to bring the past to life.

On Fashion will run from May 10th to Aug, 19th and will include some 80 designs by Schiaparelli from the late Twenties through the early Fifties and by Prada from the late Eighties through today. The annual Gala — my ticket to which is clearly already be in the mail — will be chaired by Anna Wintour, Miuccia herself and Carey Mulligan — a Prada and Vogue fave as well as the star of Luhrmann’s upcoming adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Hello, multi-brand tie-in.

Amazon.com, who along with Condé Nast is underwriting the exhibit, will serve as the Gala’s honorary chair.

Hollywood is buzzing with ingénues — young actresses who are typically cast as innocent or naïve characters, which is ironic in itself since there’s nothing innocent or naïve about anyone in Hollywood. There are, however, a crop of lovely ladies who stand head and collar bone above the pack, due to their talent, their beauty and their sense of style. Of course, one could argue that they all have a team of stylists and professional gays that keep them looking flawless, but you can throw anyone in couture; some sink while others end up doing backstrokes all over the competition. These are the 10 gals who are setting both the screen and red carpet ablaze. Let ‘em burn!

Carey Mulligan

Starring roles: A Miu Miu, Vionnet and Prada devotee, Carey’s also not afraid to make a bold choice…such as ignoring Anna Wintour‘s advice. Others have died for less, but her gambits more often pay off than not. With one Oscar nomination down — for An Education (2009) – Mulligan’s sure to get another for next year’s The Great Gatsby, playing the ultimate ingénue, Daisy Buchanan.

Elle Fanning

Starring roles: Elle proved such a fave with the Mulleavy sisters, they cast her in a short film for Rodarte. After stealing scenes in the independent Somewhere (2010), Elle’s going for the blockbuster gusto with J.J. Abrams‘s Super 8, out this summer.

Hailee Steinfeld

Starring roles: Along with Fanning, Steinfeld is proving that it’s never too early to be a fashionista by going on a winning streak during awards season…if only on the red carpet. Hailee nabbed an Oscar nom for showing her Grit, but for her next project, she’s going for a softer touch: she’s attached to a retelling of Sleeping Beauty.

Mia Wasikowska

Starring roles: Honestly, I’ve been more inspired by Mia’s stunning editorials as of late than her red carpet style. She first had me with W alongside her Jane Eyre co-star, Michael Fassbender then she channeled another Mia (Farrow) for Blackbook. She’s super talented and naturally beautiful plus with a slew of upcoming roles, she’ll have plenty of time to brush up on her style notes.

Blake Lively

Starring roles: When Karl Lagerfeld handpicks you to be the Chanel Purse Ambassador, you’re officially an icon. Best known for her penchant for Gossip, Blake surprised everyone with a dramatic turn in The Town (2010) and will soon be feeling up Ryan Reynold‘s muscled, latex-clad torso in this summer’s Green Lantern. Some ingenues get all the luck.

Keira Knightley

Starring roles: Another of Karl’s favorites, Keira’s been a red carpet highlight for years — I’m still screaming at her in Vera Wang at the 2006 Oscars.* Though she was keeping a low profile for a while, Knightley came roaring back in this Chanel Couture stunner at the London premiere of Never Let Me Go. Add to that coup her recent Chanel Coco Mademoiselle short film and the upcoming romantic drama Last Night this May.

Leighton Meester

Starring roles: Though she’s the picture of Upper East Side preppy refinement as Blair Waldorf, Leighton’s personal style falls more in the delightfully quirky category. Along with Carey, Leighton is among the most fun and daring of these youthful beauties. Between gigs on Gossip Girl, Meester will next be seen seducing Dr. House himself in The Oranges out later this year.

Mila Kunis

Starring roles: Black Swan propelled Mila Kunis into a completely different stratosphere, one with awards and critical praise. Mila rose gamely to the challenge of red carpet dressing, peaking with this Alexander McQueen number from the SAG Awards. Next she’ll trade in her toe shoes to shack up with Justin Timberlake before hopping a broom for Oz: The Great and Powerful.

Michelle Williams

Starring roles: Michelle had her best style moment at this year’s Oscars when she took my breath away in this simple Chanel column… although her 2006 canary yellow Vera Wang* still holds a special place in my heart. Once upon a Creek, Michelle Williams was Katie Holmes‘ rival, so it makes poetic sense that while Katie is Jackie O, Michelle will play Marilyn Monroe in next year’s My Week With Marilyn.

Anne Hathaway

Starring roles: Honestly, Hathaway’s days as an ingénue are practically through, but having put in her Princess days, she’s succesfully transitioning to a leading lady. She managed to hold up the weight of the entire Academy Awards telecast this year on her bold, tuxedoed shoulders, so her next challenge Anne will be to claw up the screen as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises.

*Sidebar: Meanwhile, I forgot how much werq Vera was doing at the Academy Awards that year.

Dana Davis was having trouble finding a shoe to suit her needs. Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at age 7, she struggled with foot ailments related to the illness, forcing her to quit her teaching job, which required her to be on foot all day, after eight corrective surgeries. Not only was she fighting to find the types of shoes her doctors recommended, she was on a mission to find a sexy, aesthetically-pleasing design. That’s when she launched her business, a revolutionary footwear collection that melds luxury styling with invisible comfort technology. I got a chance to chat with Dana at her autumn/winter 2011 preview about developing the line, what inspires her and how women feel walking in her shoes.

You started your line because of personal health concerns and your need for comfortable, yet fashion-forward shoes. Were you having trouble finding health related-shoes or was it more a need for aesthetic fulfillment?
It was a combination of both. I couldn’t find heath-oriented shoes built with the philosophy taught by my doctors. Too much cushioning is bad for the foot, so I could not find a rigid sole with strategic cushioning. There are some wonderful brands and great pioneers out there, but I personally needed what my doctors were telling me to buy. And I couldn’t find shoes as fashion-forward as I wanted. There were no heels, nothing that looked stylish. So it was a combination of finding something really correct for me health-wise that also appealed to me aesthetically.

You consult with several medical professionals when designing a collection. What is it like to have a greatly scientific opinion on your designs?
At first it was a big push on the orthotic aspect of the shoes, and we’re constantly changing it because we’re finding out more and more. We engineer the entire shoe, so with each time, everybody weighs in and consults. One person’s opinion can be jaded, so when you have a group of people all putting their heads together, you get what works for most people. One consensus is even young women who don’t have foot problems should be wearing shoes that are better for them. We want to prevent because most women develop foot problems because of the shoes they wear early on.

Was the initial design difficult to come up with after consulting all of these professionals with so many opinions flying around?
It was very difficult. When I look back to our initial prototypes, I’m shocked because they’re not so pretty. You grow as you learn in any business, but I think my taste is also growing and maturing. It has been really fun because I’ve learned what I really like, and it’s nice to see other women who want that feeling.

What inspires you when designing?
Initially, it’s always about the form and function, which is always our underlying theme. But we also look at runway. For fall, you notice pant legs are wider and skirts are longer, but jackets are more tailored. Fashion is getting this Great Gatsby feeling, style for a very strong woman that is feminine, not so much edgy. That is what we are doing for fall, a strong shoe that’s still girlie but not too frilly. Inspiration comes along every day. I love being in New York because you see all these amazing women and how they dress.

Your great uncle Frank Levine is credited for creating the mule. Has your family’s history in the footwear industry influenced you as a designer?
I actually didn’t know much about his role in the footwear industry until a few months after I started my company, so I wasn’t really influenced by my family history as far as that story goes. But my mother has fantastic taste. So if anything, because of her style, I’ve been fortunate to be around so many shoes and have those memories.

Have you seen an improvement in the way you feel after wearing these shoes? What have other women said?
Absolutely. Once we get women to try them on and buy them, they come back and buy a second or third pair. Women get so excited because they thought they could never walk in heels again, and now they can and feel very sexy. It’s great to see women stand really tall and confident in that moment.

Inspired by “surrealist silent movies and Aztec geometric aesthetics,” designer Katherine Pont has got the the 20′s silks and embroidery down pat! Anyone else as happy as I am that the vintage 20′s are making a comeback?
