According to one trailer, Skins is “a smart show about a group of teenagers living in America, breaking all the rules, and living it up,” and “Beyond all the sex and drama, the ultimate message is about friendship.”

According to me, Undressed is soft-core porn with themes of experimentation and acceptance at its core. Beyond all the bad acting and poorly constructed drama, the ultimate message is about sex.

Undressed Homework Schemer:

The Premise: Skins will follow the wily lives of a woven group of High School friends as they dabble deep in drugs, sex, drinking, partying, law run-ins, and I’m sure romance will get tangled in the mix. Undressed displays vignettes of sometimes interwoven lives as they engage in, talk about and scheme sexual encounters.

The Style: The people on Undressed look like people. Some average, some hot, some well dressed (by 1999 standards), some wearing WTF worthy Gap gear. The kids on Skins are less real, smokin’ hot and dressed to the hilt all the time. Played by actual 17-18-year-olds (finally, we won’t have the One Tree Hill effect) they dress like the dapper badasses they play.

The Production: Skins has a 2011 MTV-worthy budget, and so the production standards have jumped up miles from Undressed, but I do miss that raw soap opera footage. Skins takes it off the sound stage, into the town in which they live. Undressed kept it in the bedroom.

The Sex: With Skins, it’s all happening in High School, so the experimentation is going to be wild, but probably not as raunchily explored as Undressed. Undressed had a sharp focus on sex, which brought us right to the down and dirty of it all every time. Skins has a wider array of topics to uncover, with perhaps a touch more innocence. Unlike Undressed, it’s probably not going to be all sex all the time. They’ve got to have time to get wasted and crash cars and all that cute stuff in the middle.

My verdict: My opinions are bound to evolve upon seeing the first episode tonight, especially as I’ve never seen the UK version (sad I know). But I’m picturing Skins as the love child of a mènage á trois between Undressed, The O.C. and Degrassi. That would be a mighty precocious child, indeed.

….and speaking of The O.C. and One Tree Hill, before Adam Brody became Seth Cohen, he sexed it up as Lucas during season three of Undressed. In his first acting gig, Chad Michael Murray got pretty naked in an episode called “Surprize, Surprize: Part 3.”

How do they compare in your book?

1. Kate Bosworth – She’s a red carpet staple, but if you tell me Kate’s been in anything since 2002′s Blue Crush I’ll laugh in your face. You could argue that she was Superman Returns but Lois Lane disappears from view as soon as she turns sideways.

IMDb says: The Warrior’s Way (2010), A warrior-assassin (yes, Kate) is forced to hide in a small town in the American Badlands after refusing a mission.

2. Camilla Belle – She of the strong brow and even stronger fashion instincts, Camilla was in 2006′s When a Stranger Calls, but she could easily have been the stranger as I had never seen her before (or since) then.

IMDb says: From Prada to Nada (2011), A Latin spin on Jane Austen’s Sense & Sensibility, due out at the end of the month. Keep ringing, Belle.

3. Kerry Washington – Stunning Washington has been in critically-acclaimed fare such as Ray, The Last King of Scotland and Save the Last Dance (speaking of which, the last thing I saw Julia Stiles in was a commercial touting her as an original; I must have been mistaken), but if you add up her screen time from all of her films, she’s easily logged more exposure strolling the red carpet.

IMDb says: For Colored Girls (2010), Kerry is one of 10 women striving to survive through Tyler Perry‘s muddled direction and clunky adaptation of the Tony-winning play.

4. Vanessa Hudgens - Hudgens recently completed her most challenging role to date as Zac Efron‘s “girlfriend,” a part in which she was never truly convincing. Though known for not wearing clothes, she’s still one of Teen Vogue‘s Best Dressed Celebs of 2010.

5. Rachel Bilson – Ever since The O.C. ended, Bilson has emerged as a style icon for young girls who see her engaging performances every week in the pages of Us Weekly and In Touch.

IMDb says: Bilson will star in rom com Waiting for Forever out in February — just in time for me to slit my wrists on Valentine’s Day!

6. Emma Roberts – The extent of my knowledge regarding Emma Roberts: she’s Julia Roberts‘ niece. Oh, and she’s Eric Roberts‘ daughter. Though she’s making a name for herself as a legitimate actress, for now her last name and her emerging glamor are her only defining characteristics.

IMDb says: It’s Kind of a Funny Story (2010) I’ve actually heard good things about this dramedy about a clinically depressed teenager in an adult psych ward, but I, like everyone, haven’t seen it.

7. Demi Moore – Despite not having been in a  movie since husband Ashton Kutcher was in diapers (and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle doesn’t count so don’t even try it), stylist Rachel Zoe is always on the verge of a heart attack clamoring to dress her. For what, the supermarket? Demi always looks great, but a movie star of her stature should have at least one more good movie in her.

IMDb says: Bunraku (2010) And this is not it. Demi co-stars with Josh Hartnett and Woody Harrelson in a drama/fantasy about a drifter who blah-blah-blah, who cares? Striptease 2: From the Stripper Pole to the Nursing Home!

Ever watch a show about kids in high school and find yourself thinking, there is NO way that person is actually in high school? Well ‘Oh No They Didn’t’ broke down six of these supposed teens for us: (from top left to right, bottom left to right)

1. 90210, Oldest Cast Member: Trevor Donovan, 30…he’ll be turning 31 next month.

2. Gossip Girl, Oldest Cast Member: Jessica Szohr, 24..this surprises me, she looks 20, and Ed Westwick looks really old

3. Glee, Oldest Cast Member: Cory Monteith, 27…I don’t even know what this show is, but that guy looks 35

4. The Vampire Diaries, Oldest Cast Member: Paul Wesley, 27…that’s more like 270 in vampire years.

5. The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Oldest Cast Member: Greg Finley, 24…turns the ’16 and pregnant’ issue of this show to a totally different level

6. Friday Night Lights, Oldest Cast Member: Zach Gilford, 27…up until last year they had a 30 year old…ew.

Two I’d like to add to this list:

The OC, Oldest Cast Member: Benjamin McKenzie, 24. Ryan Atwood is now 31, making him 24 when the first season started in 2003..I guess when you do jail time it sets you back a few years..

The entire cast of One Tree Hill, all now in their late 20s, and in the 7th season of the show.  Now they’ve been out of college for a ‘few years,’ but this would put all of them around 21 when they were supposed to be playing 15-year-olds.

2. Sex And The City- We couldn’t decide which should’ve been first, but then again, Gossip Girl is like a younger version of Sex and the City…

3. Ugly Betty- Even though Betty is meant to be super cheesy and unfashionable, she actually wears a lot of designer stuff. And Amanda? Fabulous.

4. Marissa Cooper and Seth Cohen from the O.C.- Marissa may have had her problems, but that girl knew how to dress.  And Seth definitely popularized the whole ‘nerd/hipster’ thing…sorry Ryan, wife beaters aren’t exactly fashionable.

5. Silver from 90210- Can’t say I ever wore thigh-highs and heels to high school.

6. Kelly Bundy from Married With Children- Move over Kelly Kapowski, Christina Applegate is way hotter than you…or maybe just sluttier?

7. Addison Forbes-Montgomery from Private Practice- Oh you know, just another day at the office in my high-waisted skirt and adorable blouse

8. Swingtown- Check out that dude’s orange bell bottoms!

9. Mad Men- I really wish people still dressed like this, it’s so awesome.

I’m not going to say that I particularly dislike the handbags…they aren’t that bad, that fringe one is kindof cool.  But oddly enough, I’ve been watching a lot of the O.C. online lately on account of not having a television, and find myself having everyday conversations with people about what happened to well…all of those actors.  We’re trying to remember if Mischa Barton got busted for drunk driving or drug possession, but regardless, what has she been doing since the show wrapped in 2007?  That is, besides living her real life the same way Marissa Cooper did? (favorite line of season 2: Summer- “You’re breath smells like Marissa! You’re drunk!”).  Apparently making handbags…

It looks like we’ve got a little fashion drama between two British stars as of late. Normally, I don’t mind the juicy, opinionated back stabs, but this has got to be one of the most ridiculous bashes to date. Mischa Barton, known best for her role on The O.C., had a few words to say about fashion princess Victoria Beckham:

“Posh doesn’t strike me as particularly stylish. I don’t think she’s a good example of British style at all. I don’t dress for anybody else, and I think the reason people like my style is that I do my own thing.”

Hey, Mischa. When on earth was the last time anyone admired you for your style? Um, never? Beckham is, in fact, probably one of the most influential fashion icons out there. Why don’t you just shut your mouth and go get yourself another DUI.
