The Timeline of Fashion Through 10 Movie Favorites

It doesn’t really matter where you are or where you’re going, what they say is true you can find fashion anywhere, or at least inspiration. From everyday life to the hours of television we might spend watching, throughout time it’s always a good way to go back a couple years and review all the pop-culture and bizarre fashions of our past style movie favorites. From the wicked 90′s fur to crazy six inch flip-flops let the nostalgia or regrets begin!

Clueless (1995)- If this 90′s classic wasn’t already on your top 10 movies list of style and rich girl ways well then start jotting! Alicia Silverstone is the best prepster out there, and no matter how old we are or how many fashion trends pass by Clueless will always remain a fashion favorite… through knee-high socks, more than enough argyle to handle, feminine school girl blazzers and especially because Britney Murphy was in it too!

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997)- A little on the dumb-ass side and I’m pretty sure no one would wear as much metallic and glitter as these two on screen best friends, but it’s still fun to watch their adventure in going back to their high school reunion and dominating the Madonna-inspired blasts from the pasts.

Spice World (1997)- Victoria Beckham‘s style may be taking over the style headlines a lot more than the Spice Girls do now, but it doesn’t mean that we would ever forget baby spice, scary spice, ginger spice, posh spice, sporty spice, or any other spices that I’m forgetting in between!

Jawbreaker (1999)- Catty and backstabbing what other way would a girl like their movies, when you accidentally kill your best friend in your favorite pumps?

The Virgin Suicides (1999)- When it comes to Kristen Dunst’s careless ways she makes any film look awesome! Sofia Coppola (director) filmed the movie in an angelic sort of sunlight state, and with the simplicity of the style on the girls, from sundresses to school outfits, the obsession of five boys falling in love with mysterious sisters begins, and they watch them on the road to suicide.

Factory Girl (2006)- Starring Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick a muse of all muses for the New York City life style of Andy Warhol. Not to mention, Mary-Kate Olsen gets her five minutes of fame getting to rock the furs and the smoking glam of this crazy 1960′s fashion filled film.

500 Days of Summer (2009)- Zooey Deschanel would be the perfect heart breaking type girl, with her vintage dresses and humorous ways as she completes every girls dream to crush the boy who’s insanely in love with her in nonchalant ways.

Whip It (2009)- Ellen Page plays a rebellious small town girl who creates a wicked life for herself in Austin, TX. And along with Drew Barrymoore and Landon Pigg she rocks her indie-child style with combat boots, random skirts, and bizarre rock band tees!

The Runaways (2010)- When hearing the names Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart you don’t normally think of one on one girl make out sessions or drug addict… which in their case would be a good thing but luckily these two actresses rocked the hell out of bringing the Joan Jett and Cherie Curie’s wild child style to life!

Black Swan (2010)- Obviously what kind of timeline would this be without listing Natalie Portman’s surprise act of dealing with perfection and giving us a mental image of just how good Rodarte ballet wear could be!

Is Baby Fanning Model Material?

After spotting Elle Fanning on Vanity Fair it’s pretty safe to say the Fanning family is filled with a lot of talent aside from the wicked Dakota Fanning who isn’t so little anymore!.. now she passes the throne to little sister Elle.

… and the Fanning takeover begins.

Dakota Fanning Would Win Homecoming Queen…

I guess all these teenage supermodels and actresses have had a secret meeting to take over what we consider “normal” from homecomings, to prom, and medical school?

Sweet sixteen Dakota Fanning won homecoming queen this past week. All I have to say is obviously she’d win, and two ditch the football player. Anyway, congrats Dakota we love the outfit!

It’s the real deal babe, go reck some doors, make out with some hotties, and cut up some tees!

The Runaways: Changing the Runway, Changing Rock

The link between fashion and music is unsurprising to us now, but the phenomenon is younger than we may think. Opening today, 70′s-era biopic “The Runaways” reveals a glimpse into a tumultuous time in fashion history and a group which influenced the path it would take. Keep reading after the jump…

Considered rock’s first significant all-girl band, The Runaways’ occupied a crossroads the history of both music and fashion. They represented an era before music became irreparably commercialised but after it became a leading influence on the way young people dress.

Because of their unique position, The Runaways’ look was a cog in the wheel of a fashion- music machine that became most powerful in the 1980s, according to pop culture historian Scott Stoddart. Stoddart, dean of the School of Liberal Arts at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, believes their success stems from the fact that “Their songs spoke to the anguish teens experienced at the time”

Today, with artists like Lady Gaga for whom image is undivorcable from their music, we’re keenly aware of their legacy. Fashion and costuming have become an integral part of many bands’ “package.”

Perhaps more in keeping with The Runaways’ spirit, another reaction to this phenomenon is the DIY movement in indie rock, where trying too hard to manage image is seen as a bad thing. Regardless of musicians individual reactions, however, one thing remains clear: a band’s image is shaped by their fashion.

This movie doesn’t interest me at all, considering I really don’t like Kristen Stewart, but I do like Dakota Fanning so I might give it a chance.

QUEST: What Will Be The More Fashion Concious Kristen Stewart Movie This Year? The Runaways or New Moon?

I know that 90% of the comments that stem from this QUEST are going to be along the lines of “ew Kristen Stewart is gross who cares about her” or “both movies are going to suck who cares”, but I’m more interested in seeing how people feel about the clothes and styling. I love Kristen Stewart, I think she’s gorgeous and a refreshing glimpse of normalcy, but with that out of the way lets get into the real question here.

The fashion aspect of Twilight is very eh, but I will say for the role that Kristen is playing it makes sense. It definitely fits in with the rest of the movie. I will say that some of the pieces she wears are pretty stylish and appropriate for a wardrobe that is supposed to fit in with the setting of Washington state.

Now onto the upcoming movie The Runaways. There is a bit of a binding stipulation in this scenario, she has to play someone who really exists. The wardrobe is actually pretty cool, despite the terrible haircut she had to get). The pieces are heavy with leather and studs, and there are some that you could definitely pair and style into an amazing look.

My verdict? Well, I must say that the Twilight wardrobe is great and more natural looking on Kristen, but the fashion person inside of me can’t help but see the amazing potential in The Runaways wardrobe. The mix of denim, leather and studs is just way too bad ass and fun to style. The possibilities are endless!

Lets hear it indies, love or hate my choice?

Alia Shawkat (Maeby from Arrested Development) and Tatum O’Neal (stepdaughter of Farrah Fawcett and youngest actress to win an Academy Awards) have been announced to join the cast of ‘The Runaways,’ already starring Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. Shawkat will join the five-member girl band with Fanning and Steward, and O’Neal will play Fanning’s mom (looks like she could be anyways). Will you be seeing this in 2010?

IN CASE YOU CARE: Kirsten Stewart Cut Her Hair

Kristen Stewart had to cut her hair for a new film, ‘The Runaways,’ with…is that really Dakota Fanning? She’s so much older now! I’m unsure what Stewart’s hair will look like down, but by the way she always has it up, I’m guessing she doesn’t like it. It can’t be that bad! It’s a lot darker, kindof reminds me of Shannyn Sossamon, and Stewie should take that as a HUGE compliment from me.

What do you think of Kristen Stewart’s new hair?
