This year, Six Scents is paying tribute to precious childhood or adolescent memories–Mary Katrantzou‘s, for instance, recalls burnt matches and the summer breeze. For Hourani, that memory is sex. Which translates to the smell of…well…y’know…sperm.

I wanted something transformable, representing life from birth to death. The top note is baby powder mixed with the smell of sperm, but a sperm that is not necessarily vulgar or filthy. It’s more a smell you can’t put your finger on…Christopher [the perfumer] went as close to the sperm smell as possible and made it really elegant and beautiful.

Essentially, Hourani’s fragrance is the circle of life; the top note is the sensual, seedy scent of sperm–which actually kinda works. The softer second note, baby powder, represents infancy and leads into leather, evoking middle age. The final note of thick, heady incense has the funereal whiff of death. And with that, a spritz of perfume.

If you manage to get the very literal image of how one might collect sperm in perfume out of your head, Hourani’s scent is a gratifying, quite wearable, fittingly minimal statement.

Gucci presents its latest addition to the fragrance world with James Franco as its main man. Gucci By Gucci Sport is meant to immerse you in that “sporty state of mind”. The fragrance will be sold in early April. But in the mean time, Mr. Franco’s “masculine air”, according to creative director Frida Giannini, will keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

Sarah Jessica Parker has hit the beauty scene with her own addition in fragrance. “SJP NYC” is a fruity and floral mix with packaging said to mirror the inside of Sarah’s closet.

The fragrance, made to capture the essence of the city, has already hit store shelves and is available at all major department stores for $49.00.

Guess we’ll have to see if SJP can capture that NYC essence as well as Carrie Bradshaw. Go get “SJP NYC” and check it out!

When Beyoncé unveiled her latest in fragrance this week, she seemed to put on quite the show. This wasn’t your average opening. All of the press were “led through a maze of precariously dark hallways into a pool-turned-auditorium” to meet the fragrance’s major players.

As for “Beyoncé Heat,” it’s a fruity mix of almond and floral. It’s supposed to “[make women] feel strong,” says the singer.

Guess seems to have linked arms with a new partner, Coty Inc. Why do we care? Well, the partnership not only brings Guess further success, but it bring us Guess beauty products! First on the list, a fragrance line. Get ready people!

Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have launched 5 fragrances for their D&G line, targeted not at specific demographic, but a personality and based off of properties found in tarot cards.

For instance, of the more masculine scents, L’Amoureux, No. 6 (the lover’s card) has peppery top notes and a hearty wood finish, while Le Bateleur, No. 1 (the magician’s card) starts clean and citrusy before developing into a warmer, more heady blend.

The colognes launch exclusively at Nordstrom next week. $65 each, at Nordstrom.

A Coty, Inc. exec says snowballing celebrity scents all started with the launch of Glow by J.Lo in 2002, which sold $78 million before 2003. Now celebrities (Avril Lavigne, Queen Latifah, Patrick Dempsey, Mariah Carey…) see fragrances as a way to solidify a strong career as more and more people buy their scents to smell like them.

As much as we all love Jenny from the block, we don’t love Avril or Mariah, and don’t want to smell like either one of them. Sick of going to Sephora for a new fragrance, and all the sales girls suggest one another celeb scent that recently launched.

Another day, another celeb fragrance. And not only her first, it’s her second. That’s right, Mariah Carey is launching her second fragrance, Luscious Pink.

“This scent is feminine, flirtatious and fun, and truly reflects where I am in my life now, after an incredible year,” Carey stated.

I just don’t understand why we need another scent to add to the already hundreds of bad ones, does Mariah really need more money?
