Back in February, Yuli attacked our writers in a New York Observer article and has continued to talk badly about those in her industry, setting a horrible example for the ways in which a fashion blogger should behave and setting us back 50 posts with ridiculous attempts to unite publishers in censorship.

We’ve tried our best to fight against such oppression in the online fashion industry by creating Sayntly.com, a network designed to offer fashion publishers unique sponsorship opportunities, exclusive access to events and giveaways, fresh content from our publisher partners and at the same time protect their rights to free speech and opinion.

Now she’s the uncreative director behind this completely unoriginal video in which a number of really great NYC fashion bloggers are made to seem just as disconnected and idiotic as Yuli Ziv herself. Assuming that people aren’t shopping cause they don’t want to is just brainless. People aren’t shopping cause they are broke. We are currently facing one of the worst economic downfalls in history. Nearly 10% of New Yorkers are unemployed with thousands facing the cutting block by next quarter. Just today, the US News and World Report stated that there are nearly “1.5 million unemployed women in America”.

People aren’t spending money on Manolo Blaniks or Jimmy Choos cause they are afraid that they might not have a job to support themselves in the next couple of months. It’s food over fashion people and this parade of over priviledged Carrie Bradshaw wannabe’s have the nerve to call you out for NOT SHOPPING!!!! Cause heaven forbid they don’t have a fashion week to strut around at wearing their current season “must haves” while the rest of us worry about paying the rent. It’s a gross and unnecessary missuse of communication and I’m glad we decided not to take part in such a useless excercise of wanton self promotion.

We at Fashion Indie and Sayntly understand the plight of our readers and regularly provide editorial coverage which help you spend wisely, connecting you to discounts on sites like HauteLook.com, Ideeli.com or Gilt.com, or providing you the latest Online, NYC and LA sales through Shopette, our exclusive sales widget. We understand that spending is at an all time low and that now more than ever you need to make your money last. We are experiencing this recession just like many of you and because of that we would never waste our time trying to make you feel bad for not spending money. Shopping should be a pleasure, not a chore, and anyone trying to make you feel like less of a person cause you can’t spend doesn’t deserve your attention.

The Style Coalition and Yuli Ziv doesn’t care about you as a consumer in todays economy and are only intersted in furthering the interests of their advertisers and personal whims, letting themselves live in a recessionless bubble where fullfilling their shopping desires mearly requires a swipe of their most likely already overdrafted credit cards.

And to add to that, are these really the pieces they choose to wear in their after photos?!? How is it that you spew out a bunch of amazing designers like Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood and you end up looking like you shop the bridge collection at J.C.Penny’s?!?! Not claiming that my style is any better, it really isn’t, I spend most of my time in pajama pants and t-shirts with holes in them, but then again I’m not in a video asking you to go shopping while wearing poorly styled basics.

Okay, that’s the end of my rant on this craptastic entry into the fashion blogosphere. Here’s what some other people had to say from across the web …

Is this meant to be a parody of the fashion industry? If so, pardon my next comment.

I “don’t shop” because I was laid off from a Brokerage firm 3 months ago. I made 6 figures and until then I did more than my fair share of shopping. Are these ladies really that naive to think I “don’t shop” for the hell of it or because I want the fashion industry to fail????

Hello, sales are down because unemployment in NYC is near 10% and bonuses are in the toilet. That video is blatantly selfish and those in it are void of empathy.

Can anyone really sit through this whole video? I wanted to tear my eyes out after the first 45 seconds.

It’s a video obviously done in poor taste and poor quality. Very selfish and I agree with #2, excruciating to watch. And there’s also the issue I’m having with their “ohhh i’m plain if i don’t shop…ooo now I’m beautiful and wearing too much makeup because I’ve spent lots of money on designer clothing!” Kiss my ass.

This is almost as disappointing as when I saw “Sex and the City” special inwhich they introduced the writers. They reminded me of all my friends frompy mothers back in high school.

Normally I wouldn’t rag on appearance but when you’re telling me to spend my money with no regard for my situation all bets are off.

It’s a parade of overly made-up white girls. And they’re called the “Style Coalition?!”

I find this to be absolutely disgusting. I left a message of how offended I was on their contact page. I encourage others to do the same if they have the same gut reaction I do. I love fashion but this is ….. I can’t even find words for it.

Sayntly Members, Ryan Oakley from The Grumpy Owl about why The Style Coalition is a joke. We have the some of the article below, it’s definitely worth a read…

The fashion blogosphere is engaged in one of its periodic kerfuffles. Although it’s nowhere near as good as the occasional outbreak of hostilities between Dandyism.net and Lord Whimsy, it’s still vaguely interesting in that it points to deeper issues.

The New York Observer wrote an article, about fashion bloggers uniting to gain respect, access and all of that good stuff. The piece held up two examples of blogger behaviour. The first was of Mr. Daniel Saynt of Fashion Indie, who played the role of the madcap gonzo, crashing shows, talking shit and being a nuisance. The other was of Ms. Yuli Ziv, co-founder of The Style Coalition, who wants to set ethical and practical standards for fashion bloggers, while, curiously enough, serving as “a social media consulting group for ad agencies and brands.”

One suspects that conflict of interest is left out of her ethical guidelines.

Ms. Ziv dreams of the day when The Style Coalition will become a guild for fashion bloggers. Her history must be as wonky as her ethics.

In the fourteenth century, guilds smothered a Western European commercial revolution born from newly gained Christian control of shipping routes and the resulting, incredible, explosion of free trade. If we think of bloggers as Christians, shipping routes as media and free trade as the rapid exchange of ideas, we see that we are in the midst of a similar commercial and cultural revolution.

I’m hardly being radical by saying the formation of guilds will destroy this.

A guild is a tool used by powers to hold onto their influence. In the fourteenth century the new trade undercut feudalism. A serf with brains and daring could quickly run away form his Lord and become wealthy.

Without title, these merchants and artisans became a new power. And they did what all people do in such situations. They secured it. They built moats around their knowledge, controlled access to their tools and became conservative.

Instead of expanding their trade, they sought to maintain their influence. Still beholden to the old ways, which had not completely vanished, they formed guilds. Instead of needing a title, you needed a licence. And the two powers propped each other up. Business as usual.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Read the Rest of the Post Here, <a
