Tiffany & Co. Could Be Munching It’s Last Carat

Tiffany & Co. Could Be Munching Its Last Carat

It’s one thing to see small boutiques and speciality shops crumble under the credit crunch, but Tiffany & Co., the “fancy good emporium” that has been in existence for well over 100 years, joining the failure brigade is just absurd. Yesterday, Tiffany announced that earnings fell 75.6% in the fourth quarter…that’s a bit over 25% per month! One would think that the diamonds would drop in price or the charms would go on sale, but Tiffany still refuses to lower prices! So, what now? Does Tiffany toss out her pride or suffer the recession wrath? Tiffany’s temporary solution was to convince nearly 600 employees to retire early and to close sixteen of her pearl-jewelry stores. Sorry girl, but I think it’s going to take a big sale or some sort of economic miracle for Daddy Warbucks to even consider getting his little girl a rock from Tiffany’s. Change your tune or start digging your grave.

Celebrities Help Put an End to Human Trafficking

Celebrities Help Put an End to Human Trafficking

What do designer Diane von Furstenberg, actress Susan Sarandon and model Petra Nemcova all have in common? Sure, they are all multi-millionaires in the public’s eye, but these three stars, along with several others, are teaming up in Beverly Hills to host a benefit for the Somaly Mam Foundation.

The Somaly Mam Foundation is an organization dedicated to rescuing, providing therapy for and socially assimilating victims of the sex slave trade in Southeast Asian brothels. Founded by Cambodian activist Somaly Mam, a survivor of sexual slavery, the non-profit charity strives to achieve its ultimate vision: a world where human trafficking is non-existant.

“I’ve committed my life to fighting this horrible scourge on humanity. Seeing innocent young women and children whose lives have been forever scarred leaves no doubt that they need a champion who is willing to invest all their time and energy towards eradicating the shameful practice of human trafficking.” -Somaly Mam

Tuesday night’s fundraiser, sponsored by big names like Tiffany Co, Glamour Magazine and Ed Hardy, will help raise money and awareness for this often overlooked, yet pressing issue. Thanks to Hollywood’s fashion and film cream de la cream, we may finally have a band of champions necessary to bring us one step closer to a world without slavery!

Maria Sharapoca Sponsored by Tiffany & Co

Maria Sharapoca Sponsored by Tiffany & Co

Russian tennis glamour girl, Maria Sharapova, has recently annouced that she has signed a new two-year partnership with Tiffany & Co.

As part of the deal, Sharapova will wear eight different pairs of earrings at the next eight Grand Slam tennis events. The first pair will debut this week at the French Open – a $1,150 18k yellow gold Elsa Peretti Wave earrings “that cut a striking profile without adding weight. ”

“Maria Sharapova is a longtime friend of Tiffany and a champion on and off the court,” said Linda Buckley, vice president, worldwide public relations. “It gives us great pleasure to accent her on-court look with earrings that epitomize both the quality of her championship play and Tiffany’s reputation for design excellence.

Along with outfitting her with jewels, Sharapova’s 1920s inspired Nike tennis dress (called the Paris dress) is also finished with Tiffany pearl buttons.

Of course with all partnerships, the earrings being worn by Sharapova will be available for sale at Tiffany’s stores worldwide in showcasings called the Tiffany for Maria Sharapova collection.

So is this just a marketing ploy to sell more Tiffany? Does she really need to wear thousands of dollars worth of jewelry on the court? Totally not necessary. I understand an ad campaign, but this is just plain stupid. What do you guys think?
