Superdry Goes Big In Times Square

Today Superdry USA unveiled their latest and largest store in Times Square.

The 2 floor, 14,000 square foot store is also offering a plethora of deals for opening day. Deals include:

Free leather jackets to the first 100 shoppers ($350 retail value).
Free t-shirts for shoppers 101-600.
For every $100 spent on opening day, shoppers can enter raffles to win two $2,500 shopping sprees and one $5,000 shopping spree.
In the afternoon, a Superdry USA street team will give out 500 shopping bags filled with post cards redeemable for free t-shirts in store.

Yesterday I got a chance to preview the store and I can say that the new shopping destination is phenomenal. I even got a chance to style mannequins.(See below)

Nicki Minaj Shut Down Times Square

Pretty epic title, huh? Well it’s exactly what happened when superstar rap phenomena Nicki Minaj hit a Times Square stage for the launch of her new album and the Nokia Lumia 900 .

This past Friday, we along with thousands of other people located in the heart of NYC, were treated to a free Nicki Minaj show sponsored by Nokia. Besides having the busiest area in the city brought down to a standstill, Nicki and Nokia took control of nine of the square’s famous electronic screens to make the ultimate music video.

Hurricane Irene: Underwhelming Disaster, But Pretty Good Photos

So turns out that Miss Thang Irene has more bark than bite. Thousands have been evacuated, all public transportation has been shuttered, and pending propaganda has successfully made us prepare for the apocalypse. One result of the safety preparations? A rare moment when we find one of the city’s busiest tourist traps completely deserted. Leave it to our favorite nightlife photog Kirill to capture New York City’s Times Square in her moment of silence during the 2am rain last night. Photos after the jump.

It is always nice to see a good dose of patriotism when Mother Nature comes a knockin’.

Express Not Going for 2nd Best

Express, that mall staple with no real distinction other than its nimble name, is attempting to distinguish itself by breaking the Guinness World Record for the most people walking a catwalk.

The current catwalk record was set in 2010 by Paris’ Galeries Lafayette when 521 people strutted their stuff. But Express is determined to best them with their holiday 2011 fashion show in Times Square Saturday night.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Express will open their runway to the general public while an official from Guinness officiates. So if you’re in Midtown Saturday and you don’t mind sharing the fashion spotlight with commoners, you can be part of history.

I, for one, can never turn down a catwalk and while I have an emergency pair of stilettos in my purse at all times, I can’t really justify being in, around or near Times Square on a weekend.

Not to mention, I’d inevitably have to be removed after verbally assaulting any and every one who didn’t properly bring it to the runway. [WWD]

Karlie Kloss Got Shot In Times Square Last Night

Karlie Kloss tried her best to pose in Dior Couture while every tourist in midtown looked upon her.

Lookbooks.com Co- Founder Manny Serrano, was able to catch this great action shot of photographer Patrick Demarchelier shooting the beauty. I’m surprised everyone and there mother were not trying to get into the shot. (I totally would if I wasn’t ridiculously jaded.)

I just found out about this hilarious webshow that films in Time Square. Their sixth episode featured one of my good friends Steve Kellner, the lead singer of NJ band Van Atta High. Hear about his band, and what the ‘Late Night’ host Paul Costabile has to say. Plus, catch the hilarious sketch from the team’s ‘musical’ Los Miserobles.” Gorilla Late Night shoots every Monday at 43rd and Broadway at 8pm, so if you’re ever in Midtown and don’t hate Times Square as much as I do, check it out!

FASHION QUOTABLE: Kenneth Cole

“Pledge Allegiance to the Bag.” The New York designer preps to unleash a Times Square banner with this quotable. Tourist Chic?!?

Let me preface this by saying that Times Square is the Disneyfied asshole of New York City. No other place makes your fashionable eyes bleed more than on Broadway, where bloated tourists make their way to memorable destinations like the M&M factory or Rock of Ages. The fact that Kenneth Cole is putting money into this area only suggests that the designer has officially lost it. People in Times Square don’t buy your bags. They buy Crocs, cargo shorts, and Double Quarter Pounders with Cheese. For shame Kenneth Cole, for shame.

On a sidenote, Matisyahu will be performing at a private concert for the designer during Fashion’s Night Out on Sept 10th. Really, Matisyahu? He’s still relevant? Get some better cultural advisors at that place Kenny, he had one barely notable hit 3 years ago and since hasn’t wowed any of us with his wannabe-rastaisms.

Turn on the radio, or at least check out BrooklynVegan every so often, music, much like designers who lack “awareness”, regularly go out of season.
