There she was, award-winning singer-actress Neil Patrick Harris, doing her darndest to make the Tony Awards interesting — you’ll get ‘em next time, sister — sweating and belting her way through a song about how Broadway is not just for the gays anymore — meanwhile, that bird won’t fly, mostly because its weighed down my eight pounds of sequins — when she soft-shoed her way over to a still stunning and statuesque Brooke Shields, who Suddenly forgot her lines. Way to babble, Brooke.

Queen of the World, Beyoncé, is getting in touch with her alleged African roots for French mag L’Officiel, by channeling Nigerian musician and human rights activist, Fela Kuti. This means African prints, African jewelry and of course the proud African tradition of black face.

Broadway jumped the shark once it started adapting Disney musicals (Shrek, anyone? At all?) But with this Spider-Man musical, Broadway’s jumped a shark barebacking a killer whale humping a porpoise riding a unicycle while strapped to Betty White‘s back. And the Tonys will probably eat it all up.

Put a little twist on the classics and you’ve basically got the aesthetic for designer Kai Kuhne. From pencil skirts to high waisted pants and Chanel’s “little black dress” to the trendy boyfriend blazer, Kuhne reigns a viking at manipulating basic pieces in a classically simple buy edgy way. Leaning on the twisted-classics side myself, I’m surprised that Kai Kuhne hasn’t been more widely recognized, however, artist Terence Koh recently wore a Kuhne blazer to the Whitney Art Party while Samantha Mathi looked stunning in a Kuhne dress at the 2009 Tony Awards. Keep your eyes peeled for more of Kuhne, because I think he is exactly what our minimal loving recession needs in a designer.
