His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales will kick off the sartorial weekend on June 14 with a reception at St. James’s Palace followed by the opening reception hosted by Topman that night. The following evening Ford will hold a dinner while Esquire and Mr. Porter have an event of their own.

On Saturday night, the 16th, Louis Vuitton and Spencer Hart will both host cocktail parties and everything will be wrapped up nicely on the 17th with a  Burberry event hosted by Christopher Bailey and a GQ dinner hosted by Calvin Klein.

As for the actual fashion, Hilfiger, Pringle of Scotland, Thom Browne, Belstaff, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, Joseph Abboud and Richard Nicoll among others will all hold presentations.

A look from E. Tautz's spring 2012 collection

Designers including Aquascutum, Christopher Raeburn, E. Tautz, J.W. Anderson and TOPMAN will show from Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 17, immediately preceding the men’s fashion weeks in Milan and Paris — meaning those limey labels can finally capitalize on all the sartorial testosterone running through Europe. Tom Ford and Christopher Kane are among the members of the committee overseeing London Collections: Men, headed by British GQ editor Dylan Jones.

The news of this new men’s fashion weekend delivers on BFC CEO Caroline Rush’s promise that “Menswear in London will be put in the spotlight this year,” made shortly after James Long became the first menswear designer to win one of the Council’s Fashion Forward  prizes. [Telegraph]

The key to surviving your hangover in public will your ability to be comfortable. Since you CAN'T wear your "favorite" hoodie around town or at work, opt for a sweatshirt. This season sweater shirts are more fashion forward featuring different textures, patterns, and add ons. You can go graphic for a casual look and it If you're in more of a business casual environment put a button down under it and pass it off as a crew neck sweater.

Hangovers usually leave you wanting to lounge around all day in your sweatpants, pajamas, or (even worse) underwear. We recommend going with a trouser with a softer material such as cotton. For a tapered and professional look we go with the featured pair. Once again it depends on where you're going. For example at the FashionIndie office a hangover is a perfect day to break out your harem pants or onesie. (But seriously)

Hangover 101: The sun is NOT your friend. Not only are this type of shades on trend but they're a great way to hide how terrible you probably look. (And maybe that black eye you can't remember how you got.)

When hastily getting dressed the "morning after," the last thing you want to worry about is fussing with laces or buckles on your shoes. Since it chilly outside we recommend a boot you get on quickly with a zip closure. Plus these are pretty badass hangover or not.

Couldn't be bothered to do anything with your hair? We don't blame you. Unless you're one of the few people who can pull off the "just rolled out of bed" hair look, we highly suggest you cover up that scalp with a beanie. Ditch the boring black this season for a bold color like red.

This thick flannel is 100% virgin wool which makes it the perfect transitional item. The printm akes it super versatile so you can mix it under a puffer vest or on top of a hoodie.

While the other guys are in their black or gray peacoats make a statement that transcends seasons.

This super sleek & trim jacket contains a concealed channel-stitched zip-out front-zip placket with a ribbed-knit stand collar for when the temperature drops.

If you know anything about mens trends then you know both camel and toggle coats were seen on an insurmountable number of runways. Mix the two in this great waist length coat.

This jacket has a classic silhouette and will never fail any season. The pops of flannel in the hood and brass hardware bring the coat to a modern level.

Besides the super cool latches, this coat offers a big collar that stands up against chilly breezes. Enough said.

This jacket is both sporty and on trend.

This jacket plays both the role of a quilted jacked and unconventional blazer.

Just because you're at a classy affair doesn't mean you can't break out all your moves.

Two toned to perfection and ready for a night on the town.

Contrasting soles are what's hot in mens footwear. The heavyweight sole will keep you grounded so you don't go flying out of your kicks.

You can never go wrong with Loub red bottomed shoe. These add a little spice to your toes with bows and spikes.

A little print never hurt anybody. Wear these to bring out your wild side.

If you just can't get over your jeans then there is a simple solution: denim washed khakis. They'll give you the jean feel with the versatility of an actual pant.

The best pants accessory definitely has to be the suspender. That being said these trousers come their own pair of removable ones. What more can a guy ask for?

A wool pant is also on trend during the colder weather months and are guaranteed to keep you warm.

Harem pants are definitely for those guys on the cutting edge of fashion since most would never dare to step out of the house in these. A solid black is pretty versatile but if you want more fun feel free to play with colors and patterns.

Another classic mens pant is the chino. Again if you're bolder add a drop crotch and call it a day.

These pants are super sleek and sexy. (Not a word usually connected with mens trousers) The super slim pocket openings and faux leather paneling set these off in a major way.

Spice up your cords with one of this season's must have colors: mustard. Cords are an essential for any man's closet. If you're not that into the mustard trend a nice brown or tan will always suffice.

Remember those days when cargo pants were a major fashion faux pas? Not anymore! You can add as many pockets as you like to these slim pants and look super trendy while being able to carry a million things in your pants.

The two tees, though not really that offensive but then again not really that funny either, bared the fratboy-esque slogan, “Nice new girlfriend. What breed is she?” and “I’m so sorry, but” followed by a handful of choices including “I was drunk” and “I hate you” — both completely justifiable reasons, but I digress. Apparently, that ruffled a few too many feathers online and Topman pulled the shirts, releasing the following statement:

“We have received some negative feedback regarding two of our printed T-shirts. Whilst we would like to stress that these T-shirts were meant to be light hearted and carried no serious meaning we have made the decision to remove these from store and on-line as soon as possible. We would like to apologise to those who may have been offended by these designs. ”

The only real offense, it seems, is cowing to a bunch of uptight Tweeps who can’t take a joke — albeit a bad one. [Telegraph]

The Dinner & A Movie Date

This date is a classic one. It seems like going out for dinner and a movie is the type of date that had stood the test of the. If you’re smart you’ll do the movie before the dinner. (So you have at least something to discuss besides awkward small talk.) This is a semi casual date. you want to be relaxed but not too informal. A solid button up shirt and a pair of dark washed jeans create the perfect uniform. Try not to be too flashy and throw on an understated watch. Just because you’re wearing jeans does not mean it’s OK to wear your most raggedy tennis shoes. A pair of  smart and nondescript sneakers will work in lieu.

The Night On The Town Date

The Night On The Town Date is strictly reserved for the guys who are extremely cool and have contacts everywhere. They know where all the hottest restaurants and parties are and they are always invited to them. Everyone knows who you are so you’ll have to look fly when painting the town red with your date. Nothing says smooth like a sweet biker jacket and tee. Ditch the boring jeans and for for an interesting pair of trousers. A sleek pair of sneakers will help you stomp around the city comfortably while looking super cool at the same time. If you are the accessories type of guy then throw in of some statement jewelry like a necklace or bracelet.

The Suit: Everyone knows that the suit makes the man and that’s why the Don wouldn’t be caught dead not wearing one. There are many suits that a guy can wear that will carry the same presence. For the more conservative exec a plain black suit that fits well is always recommended and adding a pinstripe in your repertoire will have people appreciating you attention to detail. For a bolder guy a suits with materials that have a little sheen are great and if you really want to turn head goes with a color like cranberry. (SEE: Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, Brooks Brothers & Topman)

The Shirt: The same rules apply for the shirt as it did for the suit. You rarely see Donald on Celebrity Apprentice wearing a non solid color (or white for that matter) shirt. To make this look your own bust out this this mindset and go for your patterns. It’s always cool when you take your jacket off and there is a completely new look there. (SEE: Bloomindale’s, Saks, & Mr. Porter)

The Tie: When it comes to style I feel like if you walked into Trump Towers without a tie you would be fired immediately. The Trump man keeps it pretty simple with his neck wear. To add some spice go for a tie with patterns or even switch up the texture by adding knit and silk ties to your collection. (SEE: Ties.com, 21MEN, & EXPRESS)

The Sunday Mass Look:

Many of you are going to Sunday mass this Sunday because of your religious beliefs or in my case an overbearing yet loving mother who doesn’t want to see her oldest boy go to hell. (But I digress) When it comes to displaying personal style in religious situations one must put their ego aside to be respectful.  You can go or this seasons bright colors but don’t overdo it because the service is not about you no matter how bad you want it to be.

A blazer is a must and a houndstooth blazer like this one from Tallia Orange works with a variety of outfits.  This Ben Sherman shirt is a great mix of simple and detailed to stand alone or under a jacket. A tie is a must when it comes to dressing up and this Brooks Brother necktie is a great pop of color on top.

When the top of your outfit is pretty tame it is best to shock people by having a super interesting bottom. That’s what I strongly recommend a color trouser like these from Jil Sander. If you’re pants are going to be really loud then allow your shoes to tone them down. A simple pair of dressy lace ups will do the trick and Topman has you covered. The cherry on top of this outfit should be your watch. I recommend choosing one with a very classic face but going for a bright colored band like this GUESS timepiece.

For this edition of MISTER TRENDS  I am covering floral print for men this season. The inspiration for this trend comes from D&G’s S/S 2011 collection. Many men might see a floral print and thin of a very feminine summer dress but the tables have turned and now guys and have some flower power in their closets.

For starters a floral shirt can be done right if done subtle. For instance this PS by Paul Smith shirt is absolutely beautiful but can be worn under any basic sweater or blazer as the pop.

Speaking of sweater this basic black one from Topman with a little floral detail around the neck is perfect for those in between days that Spring can offer.

If you want to go for a bolder look than the bright yellow floral pants that photographer Scott Schuman caught this man in can probably work for you.

Now your accessories can be as bold as can be. Since they are smaller you can wear any basic outfit and throw these floral Ray-Bans on for cool look that is still on trend. I think Dr. Marten shoes are extremely masculine was pleasantly surprised that they offered a whole floral collection for this season and even a few more for fall.

This is a great trend, but make sure not to over kill or you’ll look like you’ve been trapped in a bad flower garden.

• How to get away with it: Walk in. Take what you want. Walk out.

• Location: Times Square
• Why it’s easy to steal: This place is so huge that it might as well be it’s own state. Seriously so much product means so much more cheap stuff to steal without anyone being the wiser.
• How to get away with it: It is all about diversion. Yes it is full with lackadaisical employees as every retail location in the world but they seemed pretty strong staffed. For example start a riot by saying something such as “OMG it’s the Jonas brothers!” All the girls will start to bum rush whichever section you point at and then you can abscond with whatever clothes that you really know you could have just paid for.

• Store: Century 21
• Location: Lower Manhattan
• Why it’s easy to steal: The place is crawling with tourists from all over the world that the staff and New Yorkers are overwhelmed to be in their for over 10 minutes.
• How to get away with it: Pretend you are a tourist from a country that no one has ever heard of. Try to steal the old fashioned way (which shouldn’t be hard) and if you’re caught just jabber in a make believe language until the person who caught you just let’s you go with the stuff.

• Location: Times Square
  
• Why it’s easy to steal: Let’s be honest you kind of have to be stoned out of your mind to work here. As a ex employee I can say I wish I was that smart to do so. The store’s average customers are 6 foot 5 tourists and surfers who are great to hide behind.
• How to get away with it: Use Jedi mind tricks. Take whatever you need by hiding behind the previously mentioned giant customers and escape attention by walking around like a surfer who hass hit his head a few too many times.

• Store: Hollister
• Location: Soho
  
• Why it’s easy to steal: The place is usually swamped with people. The store is also extremely dark for no reason and has terrible music blasting. (All aiders to boosting)
• How to get away with it: Grab all their decent clothing they have (which might be hard to tell in the dark) and leave through the front door while everyone is ogling the shirtless male models outside. The bed bugs got in undetected so you can too.

The moral of the story is the NYC shops are not safe especially not after this article. Take our tips and shoplift till you drop. (Or get arrested)

It’s about as fast as fast fashion can get, but Topman still manages to churn out respectable looking pieces from time to time (though respectable quality is a different matter entirely).  The brand’s latest lookbook shows off some nice knits, jackets, trousers, and coats, all of it very reminiscent of what’s been on the big boy runways the past few seasons.  Jump for more pics.

Say what you will about Topman, Uniqlo, H&M, Urban, etc., but for those without thousands to drop on a Band of Outsiders parka, they’re sort of a godsend.

First off, there are a few styles and materials that you’re going to have to give the kiss of death to.  It might be sad, it might get uncomfortable, but you can all reconcile once the cooler months roll through.  First off, forget skinny pants.  Secondly, say goodbye to regular denim.  And most importantly, no matter how tempting, avoid any and all combinations of the two.

It gets hot enough with your skin on so why would you add what ostensibly amounts to another layer of heavier, less breathable flesh?  The only possible reasons: you’re a masochist and/or you really like the ‘just peed myself’ look that sweaty pants bring.

So what pants to wear, then, without looking like you’re a big fan of Jnco jeans?  There’s a world of options out there, friends!  And many of them are quite cost friendly.  Let’s take a quick look at three that’ll do you some good.

1. Dockers Ankle Chino

Dockers?  Yes, Dockers.  The brand’s been making a major comeback of late with tons of collaborations, new cuts and fits, and a plethora of new colors.  These chinos are a perfect example.  Not too slim, coming in six different colorways, and at a mucho-friendly price of $54.  Lord knows you’re gonna be cuffing these bad boys, as the New York Times told us a few years late, so the fact that they’re a little short is just icing on the khaki cake.

2. Topman Blue Chambray Crop Chinos

Chambray is one of the go-to fabrics for summerwear due to how lightweight it is and it’s also a nice alternative to denim.  These pants share many of the same characteristics of the aforementioned Dockers but with a few more details here and there, and a little dressier look.  At $80, you’re looking at a nicely cut, lightweight pant similar to to this pair by Rag & Bone.  With the two bills you save, why not treat yourself to an air conditioner?  A hundred gallons of ice cream?  A trip to Antarctica.

3. Gant Rugger Melange Chinos/Velour Baggy Chinos

And it’s not just the oh-so-dreaded fast fashion brands that are putting out cost-effective wares.  Check out these similarly priced offerings from Gant and Velour.  Both are slim, lightweight, and most importantly a light color to bounce the sun off instead of inviting the heat in.  Best of all, the light blue is perfect to go along with the vibrance of summer wherever you may be.

So there you have it!  Keep the denim handy for when September rolls around, mind your tweeds and wools so you can do your best Mad Men impression (I guess?) when the time comes, but for now, for the sake of comfort, try these on for size.  And maybe send a couple bucks thisaway with what you would’ve otherwise paid.  No?  OK.

Just because there’s torrential rain falling from the heavens doesn’t mean it’s not summer.  Check the humidity that just won’t give up.  There’s no way you can wear a trench and if you try a rain slicker you’ll be spending a good ten minutes peeling that thing from your skin once you get inside.  And let’s not forget about the foolishness of wearing rain boots.  So here’s a handy little guide on beating the heat (and humidity) while also staying reasonably dry.

As much of a pain in the ass as it is to carry an umbrella around, it’s totally necessary.  You can find a huge variety of cheapies around the city.  Go to Chinatown, Muji, Macy’s, Barneys, or Brooks Brothers, all with umbrellas ranging from $3 to $50.  By using an umbrella, you don’t have to drop a huge amount of coin on a windbreaker which–let’s face it–probably isn’t waterproof anyways.  And what rain does make it through?  It’ll feel damn good.For your top, wear a thin cotton button down.  A t-shirt is liable to get wet and stick to your body and when it dries, it’ll be wrinkled and unsightly.  Furthermore, t-shirts are extremely constricting in this weather.  You’re basically asking to get hot and sweaty (and not in the good, Al Green way).  You can leave the top few buttons undone and allow the shirt to breathe around you.  If a good breeze hits, it might even inflate the shirt and you’ll feel like you’re parachuting/Puff Daddy in that one Ma$e video.  That’s always a plus…if you’re particularly immature like I am.

Concerning your bottom?  Don’t wear pants, guys.  Most young men likely to frequent Fashion Indie probably also wear slim or skinny pants.  Your legs are the most likely part of you that will get wet.  If they do and you’re wearing pants, you’ll be extremely uncomfortable and it will take forever to dry.  If you’re wearing loose pants, you will still be extremely uncomfortable and probably look half-retarded.  Think about it–you’ll have your pants plastered to your shins while the rest droops off to the back.  Not a good look.

Go with a pair of shorts–preferably of a solid, darker color.  We don’t want the rain to soak through and show your privates off now, do we?

Now for the most daunting task of summer rainwear: the shoes.  You can always go the flip-flop route, but if you’re in a walking city, you might find it ‘icky’ or ‘eww-ie’ to leave your feet so exposed to the inevitable puddles you’ll have to traipse through.  If you can’t buck up, go for shoes that will dry fast, you won’t mind tossing, and that don’t look like you’re wearing them for those exact reasons.

Try going with plimsolls or the always reliable Vans and Chucks.  Or get your old-school Bruce Lee on with a pair of espadrilles which are being pushed hard this summer.  The shoes that make the most sense to wear, however, are some genuine boat shoes.  Seeing as they’re made to be worn on a boat, they should serve you well in rainy weather.

Finally, carry a tote.  A backpack’s going to extend too far out from the umbrella and get soaked, a messenger bag is just going to make things hotter.  A tote, however, stays close to your side, is of a quick-drying material, allows for a variety of patterns and styles for cheap and, most importantly, can hold a surprising amount of goods.

1. Quiksilver

This California based brand has been making many style advances throughout the years. At first stores were usually only shopped by surfers and the like who only bought plain tees, board shorts and surf gear. Nowadays you can walk into a store and find tailored jeans, cool sweaters, and artist created graphic tees. They haven’t loss their connection with the origins and still have great board shorts and walk shorts perfect for the beach, pool, or just lounging around.

2. All Saints

As far as I have read there are opposing views on All Saints. The Fashion Indie crew recently payed a visit to the new Soho location and we marveled at all the stuff. I will say this probably is the priciest one on the list but the stuff looks and feels great. The reason I would say to splurge here because the stuff will last. As I believe Saynt put it, “It is the John Varvatos feel with out the John Varvatos price tag.”

3. Topman

I have on many occasions extolled my love for this British brand. It is only update, current, and the store usually has everything they have online and more. I am more excited for the new AAA collection to come out. Make this your summer hotspot if you like to go out and look amazing

4. Old Navy

Now some people might me scratching their heads when it comes to this part of the list. If you have ever been into a store you know that they do not sell haute couture gowns and suits, but they do one thing amazing well, basics. Old Navy has basics that are extremely inexpensive, and if styled correctly can look effortless and refined.

5. Vintage

Vintage is ALWAYS in style no matter what anyone says. It would be a smart idea to find out local vintage and consignment stores that have a good assortment of menswear. I know some of the ones in New York that I have frequented include Inven.Tory (which also sells current clothes at a deal), Tokio 7, and local flea markets.

One of  my favorite shopping spots in NYC is definitely Topman, which recently celebrated its one year anniversary of being in the downtown space. The import from across the pond carries an excellent array of garments that make any guy look cool.  They have a new collection coming out dubbed, AAA, and no it’s clothing for recovering alcoholics.  Keep reading for details and pictures if the rock and roll inspired collection…

A London College of Fashion graduate; he assisted Katy England at Dazed and Confused and helped to launch top fashion mag ‘Another Man’. Working with Topman, Alister is a key ingredient to the creative direction on the Topman Design range. Putting the finishing touches to Topman’s first solo outing at London Fashion Week, we managed to grab 5 minutes with the man himself…

Q. Topman Design’s decision to pull away from MAN is a brave move. How do you see TMD fairing on it’s own stage?

I think the MAN event was a great idea. Giving space to young designers and introducing Topman to a fashion audience. It made for a cool event, which was very successful. I think that MAN as a concept has grown and Topman are ready to show by themselves now that the menswear calendar in London has expanded.

Q. The collection from last season was a very wearable range – something accessible to both the fashion forward and safe players – is this a direction we can see TMD to continue in?

To me a sense of realism is really important at Topman. I like that the clothes are accessible and available to buy which is not always the case at other houses. If you see people in the street looking good in the clothes then the collection is successful.

Q. Staple garment for SS10 and also for AW10?

For SS10, the suits at Topman Design were fantastic, there was a great double breasted jacket. For AW10, it has to be the parka.

Q. We’ve seen Naval, minimal and all manner of other trends coming through in the past 12 months, all adopted by the high street. What trends do you think we’ll see in the next 12 months?

Army, camouflage, long coats, boots.

Q. Are there any up and coming designers exciting you right now? Anyone you could imagine being part of MAN for 2011…?

Q. Finally, if you could have a wishlist of 5 people to watch the next Topman Design show, who would you like to see in the front row?

Five stylish men: Nick Knight, Bobby Gillespie, Jim Lambie, Jack White, Paul Simonon.

Topman just sounds so homoerotic. I have serious issues saying that I’m a big fan of them. But apparently Collier Schorr is a Topman as he shows in this ad for the British import.

The hype continues, as Topshop/Topman prepares to open at 478 Broadway (April 2 at 11am, to be exact!)

WWD got a sneak peek at the British retailer’s first U.S. location.

The structure of the new “four-level, 40,000-square-foot space” mimics Topshop’s flagship store in London.

It looks great now (right down to the shoe lounge!), but imagine how it’ll look at the end of the first business day. I wonder if they’ll be able to keep the Kate Moss and Jonathan Saunders collections in stock?

Yes finally it is happening, the Topman/Topshop store on Broadway is going going to open. The date and time you ask? April 2nd at 11am is the lucky time and place, so be there or be square. I’m excited to have the store open mostly so I don’t have to write about it anymore. It’s been close to a 8 months now right?
