The Obama-Biden ticket has recently partnered with 22 fashion designers for Runway to Win, an initiative to create T-shirts, tote bags, scarves and wristlets benefiting the Obama Victory Fund. And the driving force behind it is none other than Vogue‘s very own iron lady, Anna Wintour. Photo: Vogue.com

Wintour and Vogue have reportedly been “instrumental” in <del>coercing</del> assembling the 22 designers, including Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch, Alexander Wang, Tracy Reese, Joseph Altuzarra, Rachel Roy, Narciso Rodriguez, Rag & Bone and Jason Wu. Wary of alienating Republican voters from their brands, LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton initially nixed their labels from participating in Runway to Win, but Marc Jacobs — of which LVMH owns a majority stake — designed his T-shirt anyway, “following pressure from the magazine,” according to WWD.

On the other hand, Donna Karan, also owned by LVMH, did not bow to Wintour and is therefore not participating in the fundraising effort. And therefore won’t be seen in Vogue anytime soon…Kidding!…Not really.

Runway to Win’s e-commerce site, runwaytowin.com, officially launches on Thursday, but Wintour’s re-election campaign is not stopping there. She will also co-host an Obama fundraiser with <del>actress</del> Scarlett Johansson in February — which I’m taking as a sign that ScarJo will be on the cover around that time. See, kids, and you thought fashion and politics had nothing in common. They both require a steely nerve, a willingness to compromise and the ability to turn a blind eye to corruption. The blatant abuse of power doesn’t hurt either. [<a

Class is in session and as usual Burberry is the only one who did their homework. <span

They also scored well in e-commerce and mobile commerce thanks to its global site relaunch, landing the over 150-year-old British label the top spot on the L2 index and the official label of “Genius.”

Kate Spade was a newcomer to the index but their blend of smart e-commerce and a strong mobile and social presence skyrocketed the brand to the #2 spot. Storied houses Chanel and Christian Dior, on the other hand, seem to be resting on their luxury laurels earning only “Average” L2 IQs.

Prada and Hermès started running with the bad girls in school, smoking in the bathroom and dating college boys instead of working on their social media and as a result their IQs plummeted from “Gifted” in 2009 to “Challenged” in 2011. And to make matters worse, Prada was cited as the “biggest digital disappointment in luxury.” Yikes, wait til your father hears about this….

But in their defense, Europe might just have a harder learning curve. Ten of the top fifteen brands in the L2 index were American and on average American brands have a higher digital IQ than their Euro counterparts. Finally, somewhere the U.S. excels in something besides obesity and sluttiness.

The top 10 list is as follows:

1. Burberry: Digital births an icon: Proof that digital investments translate to shareholder value.

2. Kate Spade: Top social media score; Index newcomer did not get memo that heritage is necessary to be iconic digitally.

3. Coach: New York native continues to woo the blogosphere and registers top scores for site experience.

3. Gucci: Gucci Connects dots and delivers with shoppable video and recent Tumblr launch

5. Dolce & Gabbana: Global site relaunch threads needle of edgy and effective.

5. Tory Burch: Facebook store leads fashion F-commerce (r)evolution.

7. Ralph Lauren: New York Times iPad app takeover transforms brand into rich media publisher.

8. Hugo Boss: Top mobile scores and interactive YouTube channel venture differentiate the brand online.

9. Louis Vuitton: Embracing the spirit of travel with Amble app; Leads on Foursquare.

10. Michael Kors: Destination: Kors. I had to look at them for a bit to “grasp the concept,” but decided that I really like them. I’m embracing the whole “paint spattered” thing, as some items lend themselves to a variety of styling options. While they look good with the boots and top worn here, I think that I would venture in a different direction and add something similiar to the clog bootie featured below, for day and the lugged sole bootie for a fun night out…..a frilly top would also be a nice touch. I also think that they would work well with a great pair of flats and a fierce leather jacket. $225 is a small price to pay for something that lends itself to so many possibilities!

<a

Every other girl on the street sports the Tory Burch logo flats, or some version of them, making the whole flat trend rather, well, flat. I rarely ever find a decent pair of flats, and although I’m not the biggest fan of the French Sole flats (pictured above), I’m a bit intrigued by the use of cork. Cork, like flats themselves, made a reappearance in the early 1990s, and after almost two decades of keeping it low key in wine bottles and on college dorm walls, cork is, once again, back. These flats are for the more conservative, classic dresser, but throw on a few studs or buckles and I think I’d be sold!
<p

Well Scoop doesn’t have just one of those “friends,” they have four. It all started when the top selling designer Diane Von Furstenberg decided to open her own shop across from the Meatpacking District location in March of 2007. After Diane hit the ground running, Tory Burch became the best selling label at Scoop with her logo flats and cardigan sweaters. I guess it doesn’t matter how much business Scoop did for Miss. Burch because she, too, decided to pack up and open her own place across from the Washington and W. 12th street location. If that wasn’t bad enough, Vince and Paige Jeans are opening shop right around the corner from other New York Scoop stores.

Granted, I’m not the biggest fan of Scoop, but I would hate to see a store that so many people love, go belly up because designers don’t want to sell there anymore. I get it, times are tough, but we’ve got to give one another a break every now and then.

Thanks Tory Burch, because you know that the ginormous looped C’s of Chanel added a few hundred dollars to the price tag of those sandals, while Tory’s logo only adds a few dozen. Sure, I could choose to blame Chanel, but the house has brought so much to fashion and has designed many gorgeous pieces. Heidi, well, her only service is providing us with the assurance that as long as she’s around, there’s someone more self-centered and vapid than we are. <a

About sixteen years ago, when pre pregnant Kate, the original waif, starred as a CK model, some journos planted a spoof in papers with her photo, asking for donations, as in “Feed the Children” infomercials.

Fast forward, this evening and a panel of fashion designers including Donna Karan, Nicole Miller, Doo-Ri Chung, fugly shoe designer Tory Burch, and Francisco Costa — the healthier modern Calvin Klein — will meet a MIlk Studios in the West Village to discuss model health, how to encourage these gals to fatten up! Hmmmn, maybe it’s me, but who are we kidding?

Think of the upwardly mobile model rush. To dress up in gorgeous clothes, skinny enough to project a long lean line underneath, pliable enough to morph into positions, then to go home with a sack of chic rags. To wind down with some champagne post shoot, a few tapas here and there, a shower, a party, so much love from so many friends, admirers offering lines of coke. To be buzzed, warm, fizzy like fresh soda poured. To be so ecstatic that all you want to do is dance the night away, and you do. Maybe someone will love you till morning. Maybe someone won’t, but tomorrow’s a new adventure, a plane trip, a beach, a drug rush of attention.

Written by <span
