With a combination of uncompromising craftmanship (we’re talking custom made hardware), a minimalist aesthetic, and the finest internationally sourced fabrics, Onia products bring a fresh perspective to men’s swim wear that is stylish and uber-wearable. Check out our chat with Onia founder and designer Carl Cunow on his design background, what makes his trunks the best in the market, and his plans for expanding the Onia collection in 2012. <span

While getting my undergraduate degree in finance at Baruch College, I started working at Steven Alan. It’s there that I kind of fell into design, immersed in a fashion industry environment at a young age. I was so drawn to production that I balanced a full time job with a full course load. Eventually, the idea for Onia emerged and that’s when I struck out on my own.

How is Onia different than your run of the mill swim trunk?
Onia came from my own frustrating experience trying to find swimwear that was both functional and well-designed. The choices available in the market simply weren’t appealing or they literally fell apart. In creating Onia products we use unique fabrics, sourced from all over the world (Italy, Spain, England, etc.), to provide colors and patterns that are stylish but never garish. And all our hardware is custom made to endure a pounding in the surf.

Men’s Style Ideas for Cool Holiday Dressing

Mens

how to dress men

men's fashion ideas

men's holiday dressing ideas

mens fashion

trendspark

If you’ve been any type of scenester this year, you know the sounds of DJ Price. A regular at NYC’s model/actress watering holes the Darby, SL, Avenue, and 1 OAK or LA’s Trousdale, the Beverly, and Greystone Manor, he keeps the girls dancing and the boys feeling hotter than they are. Maybe it’s because the kid resonates that certain cool factor that comes with the good kind of native New Yorker: humble, unassuming, and knows how to hustle (not in the crack slinging way, but more like the ‘anything is possible so I’m doing it’ kind of way). We chatted with Price about his new store, what it’s like to be a DJ-designer, and got some recommendations on the best new men’s gear.

casino can definitely help to separate you from the crowd and get the attention of the right people (aka flowing cocktails and the best dealer tips). If you want to be treated like a confident, stylish high roller, consider some of the fashionable tips below.

Wear a Suit

For many men, the casinos serve two purposes. The first is clearly the gambling, and the other is the nightlife. Wearing a sharply tailored suit will fly in either situation. Whether you choose to go the three piece route or just a crisp blazer and pants, a suit does not look overly intimidating at the blackjack tables and is always fitting in one of the casino’s nightclubs.

Take Care of Your Feet While Remaining Trendy

A good looking suit, while fantastic, means nothing without the right shoes. In addition, you want something comfortable as you spend hours at the roulette table. Classic designs in dark shades are a safe bet, and stick to high quality leathers, shiny or matte, for a polished look.

Carry yourself with Confidence

Looking the part, even if you’re faking, is key when it comes to gambling. Clean nails, combed hair, and killer posture exudes confidence of the highest rollers in the casino. Fake it til you make it, and you might just win.

Guys Guide To Labor Day Weekend

Mens

Cole Haan

gap

guys guide

j crew

labor day weekend

le bain

Polo Ralph Lauren

theory

Topman

trendspark

white lace ups
<guid

This trend can certainly go very wrong if not executed correctly. You can either look amazing like The campaign video showed off McConaughey, the one gentleman himself, the morning after an epic celebration (very a la How To Lose A Guy In Ten Days). Still tuxedo clad, he strolls through the party ballroom doing exactly what we would all do after a grand night at a ball, staring into a beach sunset. How dapper. We recommend the scent for the young and elegant set, the gentlemen of our generation.

<a

It is important that you always look posh and put together even if you’re getting plastered in the middle of the day. I recommend this Ben Minkoff weekender. It’s simple, durable, and can hold a champagne bottle or two. (And yes I know from experience.) One of your essentials should include a <a

As a Jersey native I have to say that people were going to down the shore (As we Jerseyans put it) before Snooki and The Situation took over with a camera crew. That being said a<a

It can take a beating and be fulled to over capacity with all your weekend needs. While you’re at the beach or walking on the boardwalk these<a

Speaking of the boardwalk you can stroll comfortably down it in these <a

Here are solid tips from six men’s style bloggers on how to transform your style from ice cold to hot hot.

James of What Is James Wearing.

1. Adjust the Fabric. Stop wearing heavy wool, tweeds and somber winter colors and switch to lightweight wools and paler colors. Opt for silk tweeds, cottons and start introducing spring colors (pastels, brights, etc). I like to wear lightweight suede and leather jackets this time of year; also cashmere and cotton sweaters in fresh spring shades keep you warm without looking too wintry.

2. Accessories, Colors & Patterns. If you’re going to accessorize your look with a scarf or tie, you might also want to lighten the palette and fabrics on these as well. Hold off on whites, linens and other obviously summer-like colors, patterns and fabrics until end of May or when temperatures finally get into the 80s.

3. Footwear Fiats. Footwear should also become a little lighter in feeling. I retire the aubergine suede boots, for example, this time of year. I tend to ditch the socks as well for a more carefree look, indicative of the spring/summer season.

Sachin of Sachin Bhola.

1. Choose Color Over Black. There’s a reason black outsells all other colors in retail: we all wear it. In fact, some of us only wear it (and that includes industry folk). Black, in a way, is a mindless choice because it doesn’t require any effort to pull off – there’s little room for mistake. To transform your look for the warmer days ahead, introduce color into your wardrobe: a pair of tangerine-colored socks paired with a tailored navy suit is both office appropriate and subtle, while a modern batik shirt worn with red cotton shorts will please the Pantone proud.

2. Embrace Patterns. There’s nothing better than leaving the city for an exotic destination in the summer, but for those of us who can’t we can at least fake it with the use of worldly-inspired patterns. Stripes of all proportions and colors are a trend that should be on your radar for S/S ’11; I prefer the kind that are reminiscent of the French. For example, a black-and-white striped long-sleeve tee worn with black suspenders is a fun, fresh look. Other prints, such as paisley or batik, can be incorporated into accessories like pocket squares or scarves.

3. Find A Signature Piece. Unlike women who seem to have an unlimited amount of clothing options in the warmer months, men are restricted to pants or shorts (maybe that’s a good thing). But that doesn’t mean men have to sacrifice their style. My suggestion is to find something that is unique and becomes your signature for the months to follow. For example, sporting a vintage pocket watch, an ethnic-print scarf or only wearing colored socks are ways to transform your look into something more consistent and individual.

Chase of The Sweet and Tender Hooligan.

1. Just breathe. All I’ve been thinking about lately is clothes that breathe. So, this spring/summer scratch the idea of perfectly tailored trousers and skinny jeans for pants and shorts that have some movement. Warmer months are times of parks, bikes, beaches, music festivals and rooftop soirees, so loosen up your britches and find pants/shorts that match the spirit of summer. Look for lightweight cottons and linens that move with the warm weather breeze, but be careful to still find something that tapers a bit towards the bottom so as to keep some shape. I’m currently loving my new summer-pants from Endovanera and Uniforms for the Dedicated, both found at Assembly New York.

2. Roll it up and wrap it around. You’re winter wardrobe is full of long-sleeves and pant legs, so utilize what you can by simply rolling up the ends. Guys, take your pant legs a few rolls up and show some ankle! I’ve also been wearing a lot of simple, earthy-colored crew neck t-shirts, but then I’ll take my fav fall/winter button-ups and wrap them around my waist, 90′s style. This adds some color, but also comes in handy as it cools off in the evening.

3. Brighten up. Somehow it’s easy to find yourself wearing a lot of whites, blues and khaki-esque colors during spring/summer. A good way to add some colors to your warm-weather wardrobe is to pick up some brightly-colored brogues. Oranges, lively tans and milky chocolates are all good options.

Izzy of The Dandy Project.

1. Wear more white. White is a bright, breathable neutral that you can wear in the form of a linen jacket, jeans, cutoff shorts or even leather goods. And don’t worry about your whites getting soiled; I think grime adds character.

2. Find the perfect tank top. Tank tops have gone beyond strictly undergarment territory to being generally accepted out in public. I like to wear mine under jackets, and I like them loose and low.

3. Swap your boots for sherbert-hued shoes. When the weather gets warm, I like my shoes to look as refreshing as my frozen snacks. I’m having a boot moment that may well go into the summer months, but I swapped my well-worn black leather Docs for surprisingly wearable peachy pink suede chelsea boots!

Mac of Daily Mister.

1. Go for DIY. Take one of your fall/winter pieces and alter it so it can fit the season. Last year I tore off the sleeves of a flannel shirt and turned it into a vest. This year I’m working on a super secret studding project (maybe not so secret now). It’s all about changing what you already own.

2. Update your bag/briefcase. If you carry one, then it is seen with you in a variety of outfits so change is key. I try to rotate mine about every 3 months or so.

3. Mix & Match. Blend your warm weather and your cold weather pieces. I personally like to wear my thick sweaters with a pair of shirts or go for a v-neck, super light jacket and wool pants. It helps with the transition process and adds versatility to your look.

Jace of Grungy Gentleman.

1. Toss out the socks. I always ditch my socks when the weather breaks in April.

2. Long sleeves + shorts. I am a huge fan of pairing long sleeves with shorts. A solid oxford or long sleeve tee and shorts never hurt anybody.

3. Don’t forget the eyewear. Scoop up some classic eyewear. I rock aviators from Moscot. A pair of wayfarers would be a good investment as well.

Model and Actress Amber Anderson in Hipnosis Optica by Benjamin Kanarek for Harper’s BAZAAR en Español

ADDICT

FASHION

actress

Amber Anderson

Azzedine Alaia

Behind the Scenes video

Benjamin Kanarek

Benjamin Kanarek Blog

block colors

Diane Von Furstenberg

Fashion Editorial

frédérique renaut

Galerie Italienne

Graphic

Harper’s Bazaar

Harper’s BAZAAR en Espanol

jill sander

Louis Vuitton

maison martin margiela

Marni

MODELS

moschino

Polka-Dots

prints

Ready to Wear

solid colors

Spring Summer 2011

stripes

trendspark

TRIBAL

If you hadn’t noticed all the store displays, abundance of candy, and students being out of school then you might not know that Easter is happening this Sunday. For some it may mean going to church for the first time this year, having a eater egg hunt with family & friends, or just going out for a nice brunch to enjoy another Sunday. This post is focusing on church wear. Many of you are going to Sunday mass this Sunday because of your religious beliefs or in my case an overbearing yet loving mother who doesn’t want to see her oldest boy go to hell. (But I digress) When it comes to displaying personal style in religious situations one must put their ego aside to be respectful. You can go or this seasons bright colors but don’t overdo it because the service is not about you no matter how bad you want it to be.

A blazer is a must and a houndstooth blazer like this one from Tallia Orange works with a variety of outfits. This Ben Sherman shirt is a great mix of simple and detailed to stand alone or under a jacket. A tie is a must when it comes to dressing up and this Brooks Brother necktie is a great pop of color on top.

When the top of your outfit is pretty tame it is best to shock people by having a super interesting bottom. That’s what I strongly recommend a color trouser like these from Jil Sander. If you’re pants are going to be really loud then allow your shoes to tone them down. A simple pair of dressy lace ups will do the trick and Topman has you covered. The cherry on top of this outfit should be your watch. I recommend choosing one with a very classic face but going for a bright colored band like this GUESS timepiece.
<p

(We’re amazing at thumbing through volumes of glossy model spreads.) But when we do, it’s probably something like Harry Potter, Descartes, or vampire erotica. Yet we recently found a men’s style book that was definitely worth the read. A style bible for men to dress well on any occasion, here’s our book breakdown of Anything Other Than Naked.

Anything Other Than Naked presupposes you’re not naked. Assuming you are, in fact, clothed and you are, indeed, a man open to fashion advice – this book is for you.

Glen guides his readers though a meticulous journey in dapper. Underscoring the secret style tips that every man should know, Anything Other Than Naked spotlights each staple of a man’s wardrobe and reveals how each should look, fit and how to pull it all together.

Suits, slacks, dress shirts, ties and all the rest – the book takes each must-have “man category” and breaks them down into easily digestible formats via related subcategory (ie, Outerwear: Winter scarf, Gloves, Hats & Umbrellas). Glen initially started writing the project as a style checklist for his four sons, and it largely seems to have retained the same fatherly tone. (Who better than dad to help tie that half-windsor?)

I’d recommend this book for young men who’re learning the basics of style: the “how-tos,” the “dos and don’ts ” and the “oh my god what were you thinkings” if you will. Overall, a fine read that could appropriately sit above any dude’s dresser.

Urban Outfitters. On bottom you can maintain your cool and sanity by pairing your tie-dye with these Marni tailored shorts. The shorts are simplistic enough to fit into the hippie culture but cut for the modern man.

As far as footwear goes try to avoid sandals at all costs. There are going to be a lot of people stomping around and your feet are bound to be a target. Not to mention that most mens feet are not attractive enough to have people staring at them. This is why you can pick up these Vans. They are super distressed and super comfortable.

When it comes to accessories they can be as tame or as wild as you want them to be. A straw fedora will keep your head away from the harsh rays and give you a more bohemian look. no matter how big of a hippie you are a man should always be wearing a timepiece. Why no go super funky them with this vintage American Apparel one. To top everything off why not just pop on a pair of bright colored wayfarers. they don’t necessarily need to be expensive. You can get a pair for $5 anywhere because they’re bound to get lost or broken in the chaos and true hippies don’t believe in all that consumerism.

Guys Guide To Coachella: Day One

FASHION

Mens

aviators

Brandon Flowers

california

cee lo green

Coachella

coachella music festival

coachella style

cold war kids

Interpol

Kings of Leon

lauryn hill

Quiksilver

Ray Ban

robyn

sperry

spring style

summer style

trendspark

Vince Seaside Stripe Trouser Shorts
<guid

Because of this it is best to try to stay as cool as possible and genre neutral. Since it’s also the first day of the festival it’s best to play it cool and casual. Nothing says loser like trying to hard on a first day.

Casual can described at it’s best by wearing a tee shirt. In this case a graphic one with a V-Neck is preferable. This <a

That being said a laid back pair of shorts will do for this outfit. I picked out these Vince Seaside Stripe Trouser Shorts because they are summer weather ready and the stripes are a great and subtle outfit accent.

When it comes down to accessories go for color. Sperry is always a warm weather footwear staple so these <a

You need a timepiece to make sure you don’t miss your favorite act so this Micheal Kors watch kill keep you organized and stylish. To finish off your look throw on a pair of colored sunglasses. Since everyone and their mother will be doing a wayfarer look why not try a colored aviator such as this one from <a

These suits should have working button holes for the sleeve buttons and be perfectly tailored as if the suit were something you had made bespoke. These can be split up and used as just jackets or pants as well for many different looks and combinations.”

“Invest in great shoes and belts; never leave the house without a pocket square in your jacket pocket and don’t be afraid of color.”

Sachin Bhola on tailoring and finding your personal style.

“Recently, I was talking to J.Crew’s PR guy and he told me that its suits were go-tos among male fashion editors. Surprised? I wasn’t. Even we, people in the industry, can’t always afford designer clothing, but we’re smart enough to invest in the services of a tailor. Because fit truly separates the men from the boys; find the best off-the-rack suit you can afford within your price range. Be sure to review its composition carefully: Insist that it has at least some wool in it. Then, bring it to a tailor to have the body, sleeves and cuffs altered to your specifications (expect to pay around $40 for any of these alterations). Your suit may only cost you a few hundred dollars, but it’ll end up looking a lot more expensive.”

“Must-Have: A black two-button notch lapel suit. Why? Because you can wear it to the office, break it up for the evening, and create a makeshift tuxedo out of it for formal occasions. Also, be creative. Some guys are creative and feel stifled by the maxims for dressing like a gentleman; many of them think this involves wearing a generic suit. The truth is you can be as creative as you want. For example, I like the idea of breaking a traditional suit up with say, a western-print handkerchief used as a pocket square. Sometimes being ‘creative’ means choosing something more colorful, like wearing electric-blue brogues with grape-colored trousers. Who said dressing like a gentleman means throwing away your personal style?”

The Sweet and Tender Hooligan on finding the perfect blazer and white tee.

“A quick way to pull together any outfit is with a sharp, well-crafted, well-tailored, cropped blazer. Look for a blazer that has a subtle way of making a bold statement. Try to find one that has color and/or contrast detail around the front breast pocket, or find one made from a great vintage fabric, or maybe even one that has a very faint pattern that will add some texture to it. In the end, all that separates an average look from a styled look is a handful of careful tweaks.”

“For spring and summer every man needs ‘the perfect white t.’ And when he finds it, he should pick up about seven. ‘The perfect white t’ hangs not too snug, not too loose, but almost appears to be tailored to the body. A white t should be soft and worn to the point where it creates it’s own ‘perfect shade’ of white.”

The Dandy Project on camel coats and slim, black trousers.

“A camel coat is quite useful for the fall and spring months. It’s a wearable neutral, but isn’t as dark as black, navy or charcoal, all of which can look dreary when worn over and over again on cold days. Camel pops out nicely against dark clothes, and goes harmoniously with creams and beiges. And it looks delightful against a backdrop of autumn leaves!”

“I live in my slim, black trousers and have been meaning to buy another pair but just haven’t had the time. Well-fitting, slim (not skinny) black trousers are the chicest, most flattering background note to exuberant jackets of odd shapes and statement shoes, both of which I am very fond of. On a low-key day, nothing looks more effortlessly put-together than slim black trousers with a white shirt or a black sweater.”

I’ve been wearing bow ties ever since I was a bratty teenager. There’s something about one of these neck ties that can really transform an outfit. Here are three ways that I believe a bow tie can be worn without looking like a Steve Urkel reject.
<p

The bow tie is a very classic accessory when dressing up in a tuxedo or suit. A simple big black bow will never lose in these situations. To add a little spice why not switch up textures like getting velvet and silk ties.

The Casual Look: Nowadays men can wear bow ties outside of these super formal events. A bow tie in a casual setting shows confidence and style. In this case try to stay away from the standard black tie if you’re wearing a white shirt because they can sometimes come off as a little “cater waiter.” A tie with a pop of color or bold print can brighten up any outfit.

The Alternative Look: Who’s to say that bow ties are only to be worn around your neck with a collared shirt? This is fashion and there are never any concrete rules in it. That being said why not let your imagination go wild with your bow ties. You can DIY your own necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc. To do this it would be best to buy a pre-tied bow and go wild.
<p

The inspiration for this trend comes from D&G’s S/S 2011 collection. Many men might see a floral print and thin of a very feminine summer dress but the tables have turned and now guys and have some flower power in their closets.

For starters a floral shirt can be done right if done subtle. For instance this PS by Paul Smith shirt is absolutely beautiful but can be worn under any basic sweater or blazer as the pop.

Speaking of sweater this basic black one from Topman with a little floral detail around the neck is perfect for those in between days that Spring can offer.

If you want to go for a bolder look than the bright yellow floral pants that photographer Scott Schuman caught this man in can probably work for you.

Now your accessories can be as bold as can be. Since they are smaller you can wear any basic outfit and throw these floral Ray-Bans on for cool look that is still on trend. I think Dr. Marten shoes are extremely masculine was pleasantly surprised that they offered a whole floral collection for this season and even a few more for fall.

This is a great trend, but make sure not to over kill or you’ll look like you’ve been trapped in a bad flower garden.

Originally posted on The Tie: This may seem like a simple accessory when in fact it isn’t. Believe it or not people notice a good tie and judge you on ugly one. To keep with this look a bold skinny tie with minimal stripes will do the trick. You can great a great one like this from Bernardo Rojo & Me

McArthur Joseph: What is it about water that inspired Joseph Abboud’s Spring collection?

Bernardo Rojo: We wanted the collection and its fabrics to be fresh and fluid, like water. The garment washes, dyes, prints and even colors in the collection were all influenced by this element, which is the earth’s most influential one.
<p

Where did the inspiration for that come from?

Rojo: There are certain patterns that have been inherited from Joseph Abboud, namely herringbone and paisley. We selected patterns that Joseph used and then we introduced color. Paisley reminds you of a watermark, further bolstering the theme of water. You will always see this pattern in Joseph Abboud garments.

Joseph: How would you say the Spring collection looks in comparison to past Joseph Abboud collections?

Rojo: The change was in the silhouettes and the fabrics that we used. We tried to alter the tailoring from the way it was perceived in the past. I wanted to keep our current customer base and educate them in where fashion is heading. This spring we did the biggest step yet.
<p

It’s a man who is sophisticated and wants to be stylish and comfortable. He can be from anywhere, New York, London, Paris, Milan, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, or Los Angeles. I view him as an “international man.” We have older customers in their 60s who want to look current but don’t want to be too daring fashion-wise. We also have young men who are taken by surprise and say “Wow, there are so many changes to Joseph Abboud. This is not what my father would wear.” There are elements that everyone can wear. It is about how they put clothes together, not individual pieces.

Joseph: You are very stylish. Do you think your personal style has influenced the new look of Joseph Abboud?

Rojo: It is inevitable that my style influences the collections, but I try to focus on what the brand is all about. I try to bring the line up-to-date, but I have to keep the client in mind.
<p

Colors are also very important, but we tone them down. Colors last Spring were very bright, but now we’re seeing colors in softer shades for men.

Joseph: What would you say your favorite garments in this collection are?

Rojo: I love the pale lavender suit. We also did a Seattle jacket made from wool-nylon that is of rain-wear quality. You can wear it on those Spring days when there is light rain and not have to wear a rain coat. You can still wear it in the office. There is also the element of knitted jackets. I show them in the lookbook with swimwear. Sometimes when you’re vacationing somewhere warm, it can still get chilly at night; instead of a sweater, you can just throw on these jackets over your shirt to get a casual and fashionable look.
<div

This translates into big and bold colors all over the place.

The designer inspiration comes from Jil Sander‘s Spring/Summer 2011 men collection which features bright neons on everything from sweaters, to trousers, and outerwear.

For your tops look no further than a PS by Paul Smith crew neck. If you need a lower price point than an bright green H&M button down shirt will do the trick.

Since you can’t walk out pants less this spring it’s only right that you go bright on your bottom. You can get some great trousers and shorts from Diesel. If you’re going to take a dip in the water or just want to look good on the beach or poolside an Orlebar Brown swimsuit will help you out.

The biggest way to transform style is through accessories. This being said you can brighten up a rather dark outfit with the following accouterments. You can throw own a classic pair of Ray-Bans with a pop or even a <a

For example if you want to go for a super sophisticated you can get the H&M Hearts Lanvin bow tie, special edition Rolex Daytona watch, or <a

This style of jeans or pants are going to be, and already are, showing up in stores everywhere, but get yours first before everyone else! (The Elizabeth and James ones I featured last week are still my favorite, very Audrey Hepburn)

<img

It’s got Jason Stackhouse’s dead girlfriend in it, that dude who played Will Farrel’s dick brother in Step Brothers, and the amazingly hilarious old chick who played the mole on Arrested Development. Overall, it’s an amazing cast and because of that fact, and the fact that it plays like a comedic version of Entourage if there’s a prophetic future where Vinnie Chase fails as an actor and ends up as a waiter, I feel the need to demand the Trendsparking of Party Down. Basically, the look is a white button down with a pink bow tie, but I’m sure some of you more inventive ladies can figure out a way to sex up the basic look, kind of like what’s happening below…

<img
