Designer Daily: John Bartlett

Edited by

With male models smothered in mud and sailor stripes, cloaked in the Pendleton blankets of the 1800s, John Bartlett fused the little barbarian boys of “Lord of the Flies” with Steve Zissou’s aquatic life for a chic longshoreman’s collection. It also appeals to the eco-conscious, as John Bartlett has just taken the leap to make his company entirely cruelty-free. As a longtime vegan, this jump was “the best, most important, and simplest choice I’ve ever made,” he explained to Ecouterre. Bartlett now uses recycled materials, like his own blankets for the striped coats and ponchos, along with leather substitutes like ultrasuede. It’s his first collection back after a couple years off the runway, he’s been busy saving the animals; most notably his true love, dogs. How he jives his environmental and fashion loves into one.

While there were literally thousands of positive words that could have filled that spot, being animal and earth friendly is a cause that the McCartney clan has embraced with a passion as a way of life. Finding the right moisturizer can be a chore, especially if you have problem or sensitive skin. But it’s time to put your frustrations aside and other inferior moisturizers in the garbage because STEAMCREAM has arrived. This moisturizer for face, body and hands is made with vegan ingredients and produced by hand through emulsification. Using steam, this process mixes ingredients instantly, making a cream that is beautifully textured, light and glossy. We’ve been using this amazing moisturizer for a week now and have noticed softer skin with a smoother appearance. Plus, STEAMCREAM comes in an adorable, limited-edition aluminum tin. I’m using mine for rings when it’s empty.

Olivia Wilde Named Sexiest Vegetarian by PETA

Think all vegetarians are scrawny, pasty, mousy types? PETA is about to prove you way wrong!

The critter-friendly organization has named actress Olivia Wilde the Sexiest Vegetarian of 2010.

“Animal lover and activist Olivia Wilde proves that being vegan helps one shine from the inside out,” PETA writes on its Web site.

“She has saved lives on Fox’s hit show ‘House‘ and has saved the lives of animals off-screen by choosing a vegan diet. Going vegan saves the lives of about 100 animals a year!”

The va-va-vegan explains on her Web site that she adopted the lifestyle mainly because she wanted to boycott torture factories, and adds, “I am also way happier when I eat a plant-based diet, and I feel about a thousand times more energetic.”

Of being named this year’s Sexiest Vegetarian — alongside “The Biggest Loser” trainer Bob Harper (“a dude who disproves the silly lie that vegans cant be strong” says Wilde) — the beauty, who appears in the upcoming “Tron: Legacy” and next year’s sci-fi fantasy “Cowboys & Aliens,” writes, “I am really honored, and very inspired to continue living the vegan lifestyle that has been so good to my body, my animal friends, and the world we live in. So thank you, PETA, and thanks to all who voted for me!”

In related news, read about Wilde topping Victoria’s Secret’s Sexiest Actress list.
