Vera Wang
Marc Might Not Want the Spotlight, But Vera’s Ready for Her Close-Up

Vera Wang has tossed the bouquet and revealed that a reality show about her life is in the works. So it’s official, Fashion Indie is the only company in the industry without a reality show (unless of course you count what we’re filming with Style Network next week…)
QUOTABLE: Vera Wang Praises Gaga

Possibly in the same interview as Corey, Vera Wang told MTV News her thoughts on Gaga this Fashion Week:
“I think she’s always been original. I think she knows who she is, I think she’s truthful to herself. I like people who are truthful to who they are and express who they are. I find that fascinating. … She knows what she’s doing for her.”
What are your thoughts on Gaga? Love her, or love to hate her? It seems industry peeps all over the map are split right down the middle…

RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Vera Wang S/S 2010

Vera Wang had gothic glamour down to a science with her dark and intimate Spring 2010 collection. Each piece embodies this some sort of eeriness, feminine and delicate, as seen in the tulle ballerina skirts, yet gloomy and somewhat depressing, shown specifically in the engulfing, bead detailed jumpsuits. Wang went subtle on the fur this season, but used just enough on the shoulders to make enlighten the common draping seen up and down the runways this week.

SPREAD UM: Designers On Sesame Street

We aren’t exactly thrilled that he got it first, but Perez Hilton was sent over a new spread from the Harper’s Bazaar September issue featuring designers Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenburg, Vera Wang, Derek Lam, Thakoon Panichgul, Francisco Costa, Carolina Herrera, and Rodarte’s Kate and Laura Mulleavy alongside the Muppets from Sesame Street. Coco Perez made his first mistake by not crediting the photographer, but we aren’t able to leave a comment complaining.

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: June 08 Vogue Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker

I was feeling a little SEX AND THE CITY: with Fashion Week wrapped up in NYC. So today I re-picked up one of my “keeper” magazine, the June 2008 issue of Vogue with Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover and a spread featuring her and Chris Noth.
GALLERY: SJP and Chris Noth for Vogue
SJP’s makeup was flawless, the locations were beautiful, as were her designer dresses; some of my favorites; the Nina Ricci emerald green silk-satin dress, the Versace chiffon dress and the Chanel boucle’ suit, the Lanvin hat and Philip Crangi for Vera Wang cuff bracelet were all so lavish and girlie regal…and how can I forget about those Christian Louboutin pumps!
In the movie, she wore two amazing wedding dresses that was such a WOW factor for me. The elegant Vera Wang wedding dress and the Dior Haute Couture jacket and skirt were just breath taking.
So for all of you SJP/Carrie fans, I have a treat for you. Below you will find a video of behind the scene footage from the VOGUE Magazine shoot as well as a makeup list that Makeup Artist Judy Chin used on SJP for the movie.

ADDICT: Stella Tennant for Vera Wang S/S 09 Shot by Collier Schorr

These sunglasses are out of control! The new ad campaign for Vera Wang S/S 09 shot by photographer Collier Schorr have an early nineties look and feel. The juxtaposition of the bold, almost harsh looking, sunglasses and the thin, delicate top/dress Tennant is wearing is surprisingly appealing to the eye. I wonder if Elton John is going to snag a pair of these?
Thanks to Fashion Copious for the photo.
The Runway Show: Dead or Teeming With Life?

Peter Som. Sass and Bide. Vera Wang. Betsey Johnson. Carmen Marc Valvo. DKNY. What do all of these labels have in common? Well, they won’t be showing their collections on the runways of Bryant Park, that’s for sure. The economy has certainly taken a toll on the fashion industry and sadly enough, it has pilfered designers abilities to show off, publicize and get some well deserved recognition. But before designers decide to shrink their collections, minimize their advertising and slap sale signs in their windows, they pull the plug on showing during fashion week. That being said, are runway shows a thing of the past? If designers can survive the recession, sans the runway show, does that mean that fashion week is really the extra credit that doesn’t count on designers homework? The recession has changed many a mindset, but it is frighteningly possible that it can make designers realize they can succeed without dropping major dough on a show.
On the flip side, the idea of a runway show can be viewed as 2009’s It-bag, only the rich and glamorous can afford it and bystanders look on in amazement. Who knows, maybe this recession is simply the fashion industry’s version of spring cleaning, making runway shows only for the invested, focused, and prepared designers. Oscar de la Renta’s double runway delight is a prime example of this notion.
Either the runways become “so last year,” sending hundreds of bean-pole models home packing or they get put on a pedestal, an honor to have your collection even grace one. Oh runways, you are a scary toss up.
Oscar de la Renta: A Recession Miracle

Financial failure in the fashion industry has been the talk about town recently. With February’s Fashion Week just around the corner, more and more designers are backing down from the tents, in hopes of recovering from the economic crisis continuing over from 2008. Despite the fact that big names like Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson have been monetarily beat to a pulp, Oscar de la Renta has been doing well…quite well. It seems as if the economic times have had no effect on de la Renta, as he has added a show during Fashion Week. The designer will hold two shows, one at 1pm and the other at 2pm on February 18th, separate venues for retailers and the press. Oscar de la Renta even told Fashion Week Daily that 2008 was a good year for him (he may be the only one…) and while many designers had to lay off workers, he actually added 15 employees to the company! On top of that, de la Renta stated that the last three months were successful. I didn’t know that people were still in the market to spend almost $2,000 on a cashmere ruffle cardigan…if so, all the power to you! Kudos to de la Renta for retaining success as his middle name, even during these tough times.

Sneak Peek: Barbie Picture Book

New York magazine has a sneak peek at Barbie, Assouline’s $500 128-page book. Yona Zeldis McDonough follows the icon through 50 years of designer outfits and career changes. Everyone from Givenchy and Versace to Vera Wang and Zac Posen has put their mark on Barbie.
Well, This Is One Way to Advertise…

You could easily say that the HP Computer commercials are the best ones on the tube these days (Okay…so maybe the Gieco and Disney vacation package commercials are better, but work with me). I loved the creative and inspirational (yes, inspirational) commercials showcasing Vera Wang and Gewn Stefani, but Fergie just isn’t doing it for me. As opposed to past HP commercials, which typically warm the heart and tell you that all your dreams are possible with an HP Computer, Fergie simply talks about herself, her music and advertises for her new shoe collections. It might be HP’s commercial, but it looks like Fergie is doing a little advertising of her own.
No matter how much I hate her commercial, I can’t hate this pop star…afterall, she did teach me how to spell.
Thanks Just Jared!
Featured Photographer: Yelena Yemchuk

Ukraine-born Yelena Yemchuk got involved in photography as a teenager and an American transplant. She studied fine art and graphic design at Parsons, and at the Art Center in Pasadena, California.
She worked for a while in the music industry, directing videos and photographing recording artists. Most notably, she worked extensively with the Smashing Pumpkins (art direction for albums, music videos, etc.) and was even involved with frontman Billy Corgan for several years.
Yemchuk steadily exhibited her own photography and paintings in California. Now based in New York, she shoots mostly ad campaigns for fashion designers. Past clients include Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, V Magazine, The New Yorker, international editions of Vogue, and many more.
The figures in Yemchuk’s shots are typically kinetic and dramatic. The settings are intentional and balanced. Her portfolio is incredible, and there were so many images to choose from. But these are some of my favorites from Yemchuk’s official website.
Collab-Ho: HP & Vivienne Tam

Fashion and technology are joining forces this fashion week with the fusion of “China Chic & HP.” Vivienne Tam is creating a limited-edition computer with Hewlett Packard. This isn’t the first time a top American designer has collaborated on a PC; previously, Vera Wang designed skins for HP laptops.
To celebrate the venture, Tam will host a party at her Mercer Street store on September 9, following her Spring 2009 show at Bryant Park.
Next up, Marc Jacobs and Apple, or was that wishful thinking?
Thanks FashionWeekDaily.
