Last week, Vice Magazine posed this furry question. Free Range Fur: Is it still murder if you trap it, skin it, and sew it yourself? Aside from my belief that it is more humane to raise an animal for slaughter than it is to take a free and happy one out of the forest, this week FashionIndie asks our own fur-centric question: Is it still murder if you earn your fur by bartering the written word that embodies Adrienne Landau‘s collection inspiration for her run-of-show pamphlet? What if the initial meeting were to happen entirely by chance, outside of Lincoln Center, whereupon I would as well wind up interviewing her  on the subway en route back to our respective offices in the garment center? Could my conscious cope? I think the answer is pretty clear. And I’m wearing it now.

Fashion Week Internationale Wraps Up Its First Season in the Most Homophobic Place on Earth

You can’t keep a good gay down. At least that’s what I took away from the season finale of VICE‘s Fashion Week Internationale on Nigeria, a country of enormous civil unrest and institutionalized homophobia. However, while same sex marriage is a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison,  hostess with the mostest Charlet Duboc learned that to get ahead in the burgeoning Nigerian fashion industry — or anywhere in Nigeria, for that matter — it (allegedly) behooves one to be a friend of Dorothy. Duboc couldn’t help but notice this conflicting duality which seems to mark the entire country during her time in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city:

Charlet Duboc and the kids at VICE return for another installment of Fashion Week Internationale. This time around they roll around in the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas and its paltry excuse for stripping women of their clothes and pride, Las Vegas International Fashion Week. 

VICE Occupies Wall Street with Male Models in Dior Suits

VICE, always willing to go above and beyond for their purely unironic love of fashion, responded to the Occupy Wall Street movement in their own unique way by styling four male models à la American Psycho‘s completely deranged but still completely bangable Patrick Bateman. Dressed in Dior Homme and Vivienne Westwood suits while brandishing caviar, their smug good looks and signs like “Suck 1% of My Dick,” and “It’s Not My (De)Fault,”  the boys went down to Zuccotti Park to hang out with the 99%. And luckily, no one ended up with a chainsaw through their back. 

VICE’s Fashion Week Internationale Blows Through Colombia

VICE‘s Charlet Duboc took a trip down South American way to attend Colombia Fashion Week in Medellin — formerly the stomping grounds of drug czar, Pablo Escobar – in the third installment of the mag’s unconventional documentary series, Fashion Week Internationale.  There, she found a startling contrast between the country’s coked-up past and its bid to be taken seriously as a fashion capital. Whereas the models of Columbia Moda were the usual breed of leggy, thin, Anglo catwalker seen in Milan, London, Paris and New York; at a separate fashion week, Columbia para el Mundo, booty was king.

Today Vice reminded me that not every collaboration is a great idea. This brings up the question of “What makes a good collabo?” It certainly is not all the previous ones mentioned in their list.
