First Look: Vivienne Tam for HP

Vivienne Tam and Hewlett-Packard today are unveiling what might be the first laptop computer designed for women.

The HP Mini Vivienne Tam Edition, which costs $700, is small, lightweight and colorful. Its red and pink peony injected plastic print exterior matches Tam’s spring clothing, and it will be sold at the Vivienne Tam store in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood in the spring. In the meantime, it is available for pre-order through HP, and will ship in early December. A plain version in black, pink or silver will also be available in November.

The laptop weighs two pounds, has an almost full-size keyboard (92 percent) with a red inside.

Fashion and technology are joining forces this fashion week with the fusion of “China Chic & HP.” Vivienne Tam is creating a limited-edition computer with Hewlett Packard. This isn’t the first time a top American designer has collaborated on a PC; previously, Vera Wang designed skins for HP laptops.

To celebrate the venture, Tam will host a party at her Mercer Street store on September 9, following her Spring 2009 show at Bryant Park.

Vivienne Tam is taking her modern designs to the web by partnering with Stardoll, the online entertainment site for teens. Beginning today, Stardoll’s 18 million members, comprised mostly of fashion-obsessed 9-17 year olds, will be able to purchase custom Vivienne Tam designs to help ensure their “MeDoll” avatars remain members of the virtual fashion elite.

Vivienne Tam Joins Stardoll

Vivienne Tam has decided to join the Stardoll network as their newest designer. Stardoll is an online site dedicated to the use of teens; it’s a place where they can create their own virtual fashions with Stardoll’s software and share it with other people within the network. Vivienne will be judging an online contest pertaining to the fashions created by the sites devoted users. A boutique will be opening where Vivienne’s virtual fashions will be put on sale for buyers’ avatars to steal the stage with stylish charm.
