From making mud pies at the age of 5 to being the voice behind the easel for all of the fashion community at 23, Danny Roberts of Igor + Andre is quickly making his way around the industry. Danny’s first publication was for Vision Magazine in China, since then he has graced the pages of Dazed and Confused (UK) to Elle (US) , Even Spain and Brazil’s Vogue!

Lucas Logan: What was the first publication featuring your artwork?
Danny Roberts: I believe the first print publication that featured my work was Vision Magazine in China.
Lucas: What is your ideal subject to paint and why, models, bloggers, or artists?
Danny: Models. Beauty inspires me, so naturally, I was drawn to fashion models.
Lucas: Was there any favorite childhood artist you looked up to when you were young?
Danny: Yes! John R. Neill who illustrated a lot of the Land of Oz stories. Also Pauline Baynes. She was friends with C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and illustrated The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. She was actually a map maker by trade.

Lucas: Would you say living in California gave you your aesthetic eye for art?
Danny: Uh, I don’t know if it was California per se. But I love living here!
Lucas: How did you come up with your blog name Igor + Andre?
Danny: Actually, I haven’t really said why it’s called that yet. It’s named after a project I’ve been planning for the last few years, but it’s not ready yet. Sorry about that.
Lucas: In the fashion industry who would you love to work with?
Danny: Actually, it breaks my heart, but truly the one person I always wanted to collaborate with in my life was Lee Alexander McQueen. But also, I would love to collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld.

Lucas: For an aspiring fashion artist, any advice to give, like materials to use or where to start?
Danny: For materials, I think the best approach is to systematically learn each medium. Take one at a time, be patient and move on to the next when you feel ready.
Lucas: Any future goal you would love to accomplish soon?
Danny: I really want to launch a web channel that focus on art, music and fashion!
