Seasons come and seasons go, but bags are forever in vogue. This summer saw the return of chain link bags, and you have little option but to embrace this trend, especially when fashion giant house, Chanel are setting it, giving its classic quilted bag a modern twist with silk, tweed and ribbon additions. Versace’s show saw ice cream colour bags with chain straps that make for irresistible hand candy.

Carry a block colored bag with your casuals to brighten any outfit or go wild with animal prints to turn up the rockstar status for a night out. Box clutches are a huge trend this season, mix the two styles to gain fashion brownie points. If you are bold enough, carry a printed bag with your printed dress, avoid going overboard, by keeping other accessories simple. Whether you choose to carry a chain link bag in patent or quilted, the long and short of it is, this is one trend that is here to stay.

Hot on the heels of Slumdog Millionaire‘s success in the box office and at the Oscars, Freida Pinto does the cover of VOGUE India‘s March 2009 issue. She had actually been a model for several years before her film debut last year.

Controversy bells ring yet again through the pages of Vogue. It is safe to say that there are no more racially stereotypical cover shots subliminally portraying NBA athletes as members of the primate family. This time, however, Vogue India has put critics in uproar over a 16-page spread featuring the indigent and impoverished decorated with designer accessories. From costly Hermes Birkin bags to Fendi bibs and more, critics fear that the poverty of India is exploited and augmented as the models, or should we say “props,” flaunt accessories they cannot even afford to dream about. Despite the claims that fashion is art, no matter how it is portrayed, we as human beings must ask ourselves one very crucial question: Where should the fashion industry draw the line between expression of fashion as art and expression of fashion as unethical, chagrin and downright disrespectful?
