Vogue Italia Goes Back to Black

Edited by

Thank God, i.e. Condé Nast, for Franca Sozzani. The Rapunzel-hair’d editrix of Vogue Italia gifts us another editorial featuring all models of color. Gaye McDonald, Lili Taylor, Ubah Hassan, Jae Childs, Ariel Meredith, R’el Dade, Jeneil Williams, Cici Ali, Jasmine Tookes and Kelly Moreira star in “Tribute to Black Beauties”  with featured players: giant Afros, limbs for days and a heaping helping of sass. Ellen von Unwerth shoots and Giulio Martinelli scores with Prada, Missoni and Ports 1961.

MUSE OF THE WORLD: Franca Sozzani Says Go to Hell, Blake Lively Dyes and Top Model’s All Star Return

Edited by

- Vogue Italia editor in chief and avid blogger, Franca Sozzani says that if you don’t like her blog, you “can go to hell.” Sozzani elaborates, “I say that I’m sick and tired and I won’t write my blog anymore, then they say, ‘Oh, continue.’ I write what I think and we can’t all agree; if we all did, where would controversy be? If there is no controversy, there is no opinion.”  [WWD]

FASHION SCRAMBLE: Alex White Out, Edward Enninful In at W + The Japanese Fashion Show Must Go On + Prince Harry, Royal Party Animal

Edited by

- W‘s longtime fashion and style editor, Alex White, is leaving the mag to pursue her own projects — possibly including an online magazine — but fear not, fellow obsessive editorial lovers! Vogue contributing editor Edward Enninful — whose recent work includes the stunning “The Blackallure” for Vogue Italia — will take her place starting May 1. White has been with W since 1994 and has helped ease what has been a slightly rocky transition from the Patrick McCarthy to Stefano Tonchi era. According to both White and Tonchi, however, the split is amicable and mutually agreed upon. [WWD]

Three Models Hit Their Personal Best for Vogue Italia

Edited by

Extreme hair, statement lips and exaggerated silhouettes may seem like too much when melded into one look, but they actually complement one another quite harmoniously in the April 2011 issue of Vogue Italia. Models Daphne Groeneveld, Lindsey Wixson and Kristina Salinovic demonstrate their “Personal Best” for photographer Steven Meisel in designs from the likes of Roberto Cavalli, Blumarine and Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere. Stylist Edward Enninful conjured 70s memories with punk rock hair, disco platforms and flowery prints, creating an electric and spirited mood for the commander of Italian fashion. But what makes this spread so spectacular is the intimate personality of the photographs; it’s almost like looking at pictures of very gorgeous, very fabulous old-time friends.

Look for Carine’s personal touch on the Barneys catalogue, fall campaign, their store windows as well as a short film with her at the focus. At this very moment Carine is ripping up the latest issue of Vogue Paris while putting on an impromptu number to “Everything’s coming up Roitfeld!” [Fashionologie]
