Vogue Still Number 1 in Ad Pages, but W Is the Fastest Growing Pub

Anna Wintour is still effing shutting it down. 300 years into her tenure as editrix-in-chic of Vogue, the fashion’s unofficial bible retains its top slot with ad pages for its March spring fashion issue — the lesser man’s September issue — totaling 442.74. You see that .74? That’s called putting in work, kids. It’s also called Kohl’s ads alongside Louis Vuitton, but such is the (reduced) price of success.

Plus Model Magazine and Fashion’s Obsession with Unrealistic Body Image

The weight, dress size and health of models have always been hot-button topics, both in and out of the fashion industry. While runways are slowly shying away from the ultra-thin, heroin chic craze that dominated the late-90s and resurfaced in the mid-00s with all those pale, starving girls from Eastern Europe, and the CFDA has enacted initiatives to ensure the health and safety of models, there is still a large disparity between the average woman and what she sees when opens up the pages of Vogue. And with fashion, the trend simply trickles down to the rest of society. Just take a look at the skeletons on this Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet. Bombarded with these images on a daily basis, how can impressionable young girls and women in general have a healthy body image? Plus Model Magazine decided to address this issue head-on with an editorial featuring Katya Zharkova and a handful of disturbing factoids.

Anna Wintour Throws Designers’ Support Behind Obama for Runway to Win

While the Republicans scramble to choose a nominee from their clown car of potential candidates, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have already laid down the groundwork for their 2012 campaign. The Obama-Biden ticket has recently partnered with 22 fashion designers for Runway to Win, an initiative to create T-shirts, tote bags, scarves and wristlets benefiting the Obama Victory Fund. Nicki Minaj in Talks to Cover Vogue

The New York Times chronicles the rise of Nicki Minaj as a style icon; from “making dresses in her basement” to donning Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci to the 2011 Grammy Awards to being a guest of Vogue editrix Anna Wintour at Carolina Herrera‘s spring 2012 fashion show. Minaj, however, has yet to attain the true testament to style-iconery — the coveted cover of Wintour’s precious publication. But according to the raptress’ manager, she’s “in talks with the magazine.”
