MAG HAG: Vogue, May 2009 fashion

The May 2009 issue of Vogue is the Steven Meisel-shot “Model Issue,” and features a pull-out cover with “The Faces of the Moment.” (Is it just me, or is Natalia Vodianova having the longest moment ever?!)

It’s great, of course, to see models on a US cover (especially since not one of them is American!) but so many of these names are established already.

The cover features Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini and Natasha Poly.

Something about seeing Gareth Pugh everywhere is throwing me off. Dude is on fire!!! I just hope to see some of his stuff in person someday, I feel like touching it in person will be the closest I get to realizing that female Stormtrooper fantasy itch I need to scratch. Yeah, I’m odd like that…

As I sit here, staring at my failed attempt of an edgy college dorm transformation, I cannot help but imagine my future SoHo apartment or the decor of Vogue when I replace Anna Wintour. I’m planning on some enormous skylights, exposed brick walls, wood floors and an eclectic array of mix-matched furniture and art. For now, the grimy bathtub and excruciating fluorescent lighting will have to do, but who says a girl can’t plan ahead? I’ve started to gather inspiration from some of my favorite designers, models and writers, photographed by Todd Selby, in their homes and workspaces. Thanks to The Selby, who photographs “interesting people in creative spaces” I can live vicariously through others until I get my big break. Join me in my stalking by sifting through the galleries below:

Adele Gets Ano for Vogue

Adele Gets Ano for Vogue fashion

It’s amazing what a little contorted posing and photoshop (I’m assuming) can do for an overweight songbird. Adele is the latest chunk monster to get Voguefied. Annie Leibovitz shot this image of the recent Grammy winner, creating a shape that is a far, far cry for her normal build. Arms stretched, laying on the bed angularly while wearing all black and holding your cheek chunk back while trying to look comfortable is not a shape, it’s a yoga move, but it’s definitely not a shape.

Why can’t Vogue take the route of a soon to be more successful magazine (LOVE) and just shoot the fat girls like their fat? What’s so wrong with showcasing a couple rolls?

For those who don’t know what Adele really looks like with out the Vogue retouching there’s a photo below.

Beyonce will be gracing the cover of Vogue’s upcoming Shape Issue. The diva was photographed by Mario Testino. The shots of her are boring as fuck, with no sign of Sasha Fierce anywhere, but what can you do when you’re stuck between the pages of the one issue of Vogue that yearly attempts to talk about fatties and excercise.

Lee’s has never been a brand I look to for original ads, but this new campaign by Troyt Coburn has me thinking twice about the classic denim company. It’s a truly high-fashion look at the company that can be found now in the pages of Vogue, Elle, and Vanity Fair. (TrendLand)

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: June 08 Vogue Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker

BEHIND THE BEAUTY: June 08 Vogue Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker fashion

I was feeling a little SEX AND THE CITY: with Fashion Week wrapped up in NYC. So today I re-picked up one of my “keeper” magazine, the June 2008 issue of Vogue with Sarah Jessica Parker on the cover and a spread featuring her and Chris Noth.

GALLERY: SJP and Chris Noth for Vogue

SJP’s makeup was flawless, the locations were beautiful, as were her designer dresses; some of my favorites; the Nina Ricci emerald green silk-satin dress, the Versace chiffon dress and the Chanel boucle’ suit, the Lanvin hat and Philip Crangi for Vera Wang cuff bracelet were all so lavish and girlie regal…and how can I forget about those Christian Louboutin pumps!

In the movie, she wore two amazing wedding dresses that was such a WOW factor for me. The elegant Vera Wang wedding dress and the Dior Haute Couture jacket and skirt were just breath taking.

So for all of you SJP/Carrie fans, I have a treat for you. Below you will find a video of behind the scene footage from the VOGUE Magazine shoot as well as a makeup list that Makeup Artist Judy Chin used on SJP for the movie.

WTF!?! Kate Hudson #fashionfail

WTF!?! Kate Hudson #fashionfail fashion

Posing for cameras at Extreme Beauty In Vogue party, Kate Hudson got a little too caught up in the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Besides the fact that it hurts to even look at the outfit, I still can’t quite understand what she was thinking. There’s a slight possibility that it would have been okay if she chose just the skirt with that intense material; however, with the way things look now I’d be hiding not posing for the cameras.

Thanks JustJared

Michelle Obama Becomes the Fourth Black Woman To Grace The Cover Of Vogue

Michelle Obama Becomes the Fourth Black Woman To Grace The Cover Of Vogue fashion

Oprah Winfrey, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson and now Michelle Obama. That’s right kiddies, in Vogue’s 116 years this is only the fourth time that a black woman has graced its cover. Purchase it, covet it, and seriously try to collect them all. It’ll be worth something when this magazine finally kicks the bucket (fingers crossed).

Two points if you know how many Asian and Hispanic women have had the cover…

Anna Wintour To Style Adele For Grammy Awards

Anna Wintour To Style Adele For Grammy Awards fashionEither the woman is taking serious happy pills or had a revelational change of heart, but we all know that Anna Wintour rarely does anything without making someone cry, require a full-time therapist or consider jumping in front of oncoming traffic. But get this (I suggest you sit down)…Anna Wintour actually offered to style British recording artist Adele for the Grammy Awards this Sunday! The singer is up for best record and apparently was approached by Wintour while visiting the Vogue offices for her final fitting (Adele will appear in an upcoming issue of Vogue). The singer, who typically dresses in tights, flats and cardigans is more than ready for Wintour to spice up her style! but be careful, Adele…I hear it burns when she touches your skin…

Did Vogue Get Paid to Feature Gossip Girls?

Did Vogue Get Paid to Feature Gossip Girls? fashion

Did Vogue Get Paid to Feature Gossip Girls? fashion

Did Vogue Get Paid to Feature Gossip Girls? fashion

The media thinks they are so slick with their little subliminal messages and indirect advertising schemes. But I smell some closed door deals involving the advertisement department of the Vogue corporation and the producers of Gossip Girl. If you’ve pay attention to Vogue and Teen Vogue lately, you’ll notice a common theme: Gossip Girl stars everywhere. With Blake Lively on the cover of Vogue’s February 2009 issue, Leighton Meester on the cover of Teen Vogue’s February 2009 issue and Ed Westwick’s feature in the Teen Vogue’s upcoming March 2009 issue, i’m starting to wonder if Vogue got paid for all of this advertising!  This is no coincidence folks. Call it “giving the reader what they want,” but the first quarter of the new year is bringing Gossip Girl overload to magazine racks, and it’s fishy like a Monday morning at South Street Seaport.

XOXO Kirby.

VOGUE SECRETS REVEALED: Sienna Millers Body Double

VOGUE SECRETS REVEALED: Sienna Millers Body Double fashion

The Daily Mirror’s 3AM Girls have uncovered a horrid, yet not surprising truth. THIS ENTIRE IMAGE IS A LIE!!!

In a behind-the-scenes documentary, The September Issue, fearsome Vogue editor Anna Wintour claims Miller is too “toothy” and staff were worried she has “too many fillings” and “unruly hair”….

The documentary shows how the actress was airbrushed within an inch of her life for the shoot with famed photographer Mario Testino back in 2007. They then took one photo of her face and super-imposed it on a separate picture of her body.

60 Minuets Of Anna Wintour

60 Minuets Of Anna Wintour fashionFirst she appeared on the big screen at the Sundance film festival in The September Issue. Now, get ready for a whole hour of Anna Wintour coming to a television near you! Rumor has it that 60 Minutes is doing a special on the fashion queen herself! Although correspondents from the show would not share details, NY Mag said they spotted 60 Minutes cameramen following Wintour at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards dinner in November, and at the panel discussion she partook in last month with David Remnick and Graydon Carter. So, which side of Wintour will we see this time? The dedicated, sophisticated and somewhat human side of the Vogue editor, or the demanding, rude and bitchy side?

Anna Wintour Suppresses The Inner Bitch We Know And Love

Anna Wintour Suppresses The Inner Bitch We Know And Love fashionThis may come of a shock to most of you, but Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine, may be human after all! As we reported last week, R.J Cutler’s documentary The September Issue focused on Vogue’s production of their September 2007, obviously exposing some of the raw bitchiness that is Anna Wintour. But when it came down to chatting about the film at the Sundance festival, she shared some very unlikely details about the film. Take, for instance, the fact that Wintour and Vogue allowed Cutler complete and total control of the documentary. Apparently, neither the magazine nor the lady in charge placed any restraints on the producer. Sure, they tossed around some suggestions here and there, but with the freedom to expose the real drama, stress and villains of the fashion industry, who wouldn’t ignore them!? I look forward to seeing the menacing truth about Wintour and Vogue…none of that scripted The City drama!

Thanks NY Mag!

Jennifer Aniston’s Issues Moves Issues

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston’s whining on the cover of Vogue about Angelina and providing a peep show on GQ helped move more issues of the magazines on newsstands than in the past 10 years. Shockingly, when you make your magazine look like OK Magazine or Maxim, you sell more issues.

ADDICT: Katie Holmes for Miu Miu fashion

A couple months ago we told you about Miu Miu tapping Katie Holmes for Spring 2009.

Vogue UK has just unveiled one shot from the campaign.

Shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Katie wears a Miuccia Prada-designed dress. The shoot was reportedly inspired by Fellini films and is intended to radiate “mystery and theatricality.”

I’ve always thought Katie photographed well. And while I dislike the short hair on her, the true-to-Miu Miu lighting and styling suit her well.
