Theophilus London Turning Tables for Fashion Week Fêtes

Last night, the dapper rapper Theophilus London traded in the mic for a turntable, and took his turn as DJ to the fiery fêtes of NY Fashion Week. The FashionIndies hit the Joseph Abboud after party with London as the DJ on the invite. Fashionably late, and several dirty 90s hip hop songs in, we realized it was not Theophilus spinning. The new garde fashionisto had already made moves for a more (literally) underground party at the W Hotel‘s former Downstairs, the new Lilium. Well played, sir. We made our way W-wards and got down to his rap ass rap set. Don’t get too bummed, catch his set tonight, if you can.

He’s touting his tunes all over town to the fashionable elite. Next stop, the Rebecca Minkoff after party at the Darby Downstairs tonight. Then he’s setting the mood for Rachel Roy‘s after party on Monday.

For Imitation of Christ‘s spring 2012 collection, Tara Subkoff heard wedding bells. A procession complete with a flower girl, bridesmaids, groomsmen — all attired in Doyle Mueser — and officiated by Father Andrew O’Connor lit up the W Hotel‘s Great Room this afternoon. When models Miles and Lydia exchanged their vows, the wedding party threw their bouquets in the air to a roomful of applause. It was partly for the happy young couple but also for a thoroughly pretty collection heavy on bugle beads, sheer fabrics and flowery embellishments. Mazel to the kids!

Statement Pieces: Blazers with appliquéd shoulders, a fringe dress not out of place on Annie Oakley and dresses with slits up to there

Front Row Name Drops: Gal-about-town Derek Blasberg and Natasha Lyonne crawled out of the gutter she’s been hiding in for the past 10 years

Gossip: Unidentified No Name Celebrity — “How long is this going to last?”; PR Girl — 10-15 min…; UNNC — “No. I’m not doing that.”

Runway Music: A “wedding guest” stood up and crooned a bit of Billy Idol‘s “White Wedding” a capella before the ceremony began.

I love this dress on Zoe, but she would have looked even more amazing with milder hair and makeup. She is so beautiful, this much overtakes her face. But I have seen quite an evolution in her style over the last couple years; she really knows how to put on the sophistication.

Simon Doonan’s Five Tips To Surviving Fashion Week!

SIMON’S TIPS:

Tip Number 1: Wearing insane makeup, crazy garish accessories, and demented outfits to fashion week is a really horrible idea… unless you want to get your picture taken continuously and have a wild and fabulous time.

Tip Number 2: Think you might have what it takes to be a supermodel? There’s only one way to find out: hop on the runway for the finale and start working all your angles!

Tip Number 3: Hated the show but not sure what to say? Simply barge backstage, air kiss the designer and shout, “You’ve done it again!” It works either way.

Tip Number 4: Bring buckets of food. If they eat hot dogs at football games there’s no reason why you cannot scarf down a tuna-melt at a fashion show.

Tip Number 5: If you are enjoying the music at a show feel free to sing along loudly…and bust a move.

Also, be sure to check the amazing window displays at W Hotel in Union Square location that Simon Doonan designed himself! I know this seems a bit overwhelming, but W guests in cities where there are Barneys locations will receive exclusive perks!
