Allegedly, picking out a wedding dress makes most women want to pull their hair out. Surely, it’ll be several decades until I learn firsthand. Either I won’t find Mr. Right, or I’ll have turned to Sui Numeris for my bridal needs. It’s a bridal shop that finds the best designs by top designers like Vera Wang, Valentino and more, but also finds some extremely well crafted designs that will leave some funds left over for the honeymoon. With an array of evening wear and an entire section devoted to the LBD, it’s more than just bridal. And try to beat this: currently evening wear starts at less than $100 and bridal wear starts at less than $140! Bam.

This fine lady in the wedding dress you see, is actually more fit for a public bathroom than a matrimonial chapel. She made her dress out of toilet paper, and cleaned up pretty nice. Cheap Chic Weddings held their 7th annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest, and Susan Brennan of Michigan won $1000 for making TP look, well, not like sh*t. See the other runners up here.

Bianca is stunning in this Alberta Ferretti gown, even though I think she looks more wedding ready than red carpet. The emerald jewelry is to die for, but I would have put her in two pieces rather than three. Women should definitely take a few notes from Bianca when wanting to dress elegant – she is a vision of poise and beauty.

They’ve hired an investment bank to decide whether an infusion of cash or perhaps a complete sale of the company is in order after a lackluster four years under Hilco Consumer Capital and The Weinstein Co. - Dov Charney no longer holds the majority share in American Apparel after an influx of cash last week from a group of Canadian funders, including private investor Michael Serruya. Unlike everyone else in the world, Serruya has confidence in the American Apparel brand and in Dov Charney, whom he thinks is the victim of a “shakedown,” in reference to that whole sex slave thing. - Are your alarms set? Are your puffy-sleeved gowns steamed and at the ready? The Royal Wedding is tomorrow, meaning that people might stop doing creepy things like tattooing their front teeth with Prince William‘s and Kate Middelton‘s likenesses, or spending 490 bucks (or three easy payments of 163 bucks) for a vinyl doll bearing the Issa engagement dress seen round the world (as soon as that wedding dress debuts, however, that doll is getting an upgrade). But there’s perhaps nothing creepier– or…classier? — than slipping on some royally-inspired latex to get it on in the boudoir. Co-founded by former bridal market editor for WWD David Yassky, the new site offers both full-price and discounted bridal gowns and accessories. Plus, a portion of every purchase goes to charity, so you can feel good about your obsession with tulle, satin and lace.

Designers on board include Oscar de la Renta, Amsale, Jenny Packham, Monique Lhuillier and Ranjana Khan with more labels and special collaborations on the way. Each designer chooses a charity where a portion of the proceeds will be donated.

“Philanthropy and feel-good shopping are part of our DNA,” co-founder and co-president David Yassky said.

Vera Wang Dishes On J. Lo’s Unworn Wedding Dress

Before marrying Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez was supposed to tie the knot with Ben Affleck.

For her big day Vera Wang was designing a custom gown for the actress, but she says it was difficult!

Vera reveals “It took eight months and we made three dresses. It pushed me out of my own box and comfort zone.”

Unfortunately, she never got to wear it because Bennifer called off the wedding in September of 2003.

To add insult to injury, the designer said it was the most expensive dress she’d ever made!

Ouch!

Luckily Jennifer got married again and wore a dress designed by Vera, it just wasn’t as expensive or elaborate.

Still sounds like a nightmare.

Toilet Paper Dress Contest Finalists

A million years ago, I posted a design contest regarding making a wedding dress out of toilet paper. Well, here are the finalists. Six dresses were displayed at the Times Square “odditorium” Thursday and three winning designers squared off for the top prize of $1,000.

The judges from Ripley’s Believe it or Not!, Charmin and Cheap-Chic-Weddings crowned this year’s winner, Katrina Chalifoux. She apparently spent two weeks creating a sheath dress with a raised flower pattern from molded toilet paper.

TrendSpark: The Anti-Wedding Dress

Weddings may be the last bit of tradition we have in our society of apathetic views towards religion. As more religious traditions have become jaded by commercialism and fraud, getting married denotes a need to give in to the old school, suit up, and walk the aisle. But, a new batch of designers and indies are giving the wedding a bit of a shake up. Weddings are being streamed virally online, receptions are getting replaced by all night dance parties with rock bands and DJs, and the wedding dress is getting a fresh makeover.

We’ve begun to see a trend towards dresses that are shorter, less frilly, and even, gasp, ones that are not white!!! (Guess we know who did and didn’t wait till the Honeymoon). At left is one perfect example from WWD. It’s a wedding dress inspired by the Mad Hatter (I guess we know who plays Alice in this relationship). Whether these dresses hit the mainstream is anybodies guess, just be glad that you can finally have a wedding that will keep you looking like the most unique bride in the world.
