As part of our “Art, Architecutre and Design” month, we at FashionIndie want to keep you culturally stimulated. But what good is cultural stimulation if you’re wardrobe leaves you limp? So combining the best of both worlds, here’s a handy dandy’s guide to some interesting exhibits opening around the city and what to wear to them.

Living in New York City, we’ve all had to perfect our small-talk auto-pilot. After the initial five minutes discussing careers, playing the name game only goes so far. Chats often morph into a competition of recommending favorite museums and exhibitions (this throw-down is also applicable to train routes, East 7th Street restaurants, and Tupac v. Biggie). It’s good to have a few go-to’s in your pocket when your art cred is being challenged, and dropping some colorful vocabulary just adds to the charm. Since it’s my job to share my knowledge, here is a slice of artistic Big Apple real-estate that you can claim to know next time you find yourself at a loss for words or opinion.

Keds has definitely been making the rounds, if you know what I mean. As in Keds is a lot like a doorknob, everyone gets a turn. After bedding the Gap, Keds launches another collaboration, this time with artist Jenny Holzer.

There are artist T-shirts and then there are artist T-shirts . The first, an XL souvenir shirt with Monet’s lilies bought outside the Louvre, have little artistic merit. But there are these shirts, a collaboration between Adam Lippes and four of the hottest artists chosen by the Whitney Museum of American Art . The shirts are available in only two places — who said art should be accessible? —at our sale on Thursday, June 29th and at the Whitney Museum thereafter. Lots of stars came out for the Whitney Museum American Art Gala last night, but I thought Christina Ricci, here in Versace, was one of the best-dressed. I’d never consider her a trend-setter, but she sure cleans up nice to look read carpet-ready. I’m not into tramp stamps, but I’m willing to overlook it. Just this once.

I know everyone is talking about them, and most of you have probably seen them but these limited edition summer tees are pretty cool. The shirts feature bold designs by artists like Jeff Koons, Chuck Close, Kiki Smith, Marilyn Minter, Barbara Kruger, Glenn Ligon, Kenny Scharf, and Kerry James Marshall. I gotta say, these are pretty nifty, and at those prices, I think I’m going to join the rat pack and pick one up.
