Brands such as Lululemon, Y-3 and Intermix are said to be interested in developing in the neighborhood in anticipation of the spike in consumers from the Center’s sporting events, concerts and conventions. Leading the way is Adidas, which announced last month that it will be opening a 3,300-sq.-ft store in the Barclays Center that will sell official Nets merchandise.

The billion-dollar arena is expected to double rent prices for prime commercial real estate, and it’s only a matter of time before private real estate is affected as well.  As Thomas Conoscenti, director of real estate and planning for the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, puts it, “The arena is really going to solidify downtown Brooklyn as a destination, not just for Brooklyn residents but the entire region.”

Once any neighborhood gets popular, rents skyrocket and gentrification sweeps through like an unrelenting tide. And this time the tide’s coming straight from the Jersey shore. Hunker down and pray for daylight, Brooklynites. [WWD, sub req'd]

If you're trying to stick with wool for the season, try this NYC-made parka. It's a super high grade weave that locks the warmth in. Plus, the guys that make them are super cool and passionate about finding the very best materials.

If you're addicted to your heated blanket come the cold, try this heated jacket. Battery operated, it keeps you electrically warm. Plus, they're all kinds of proof: water, ballistic, etc. There's also optional armor. And to make it more ladylike and shapely, it has elastic corsetry at the side to make it fitted to your body.

This jacket is the bomb. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) It's made from a high tech fabric called, fittingly enough, "Techno Fabric". It's made to keep you drier and warmer with an iridescent sheen.

The lining is made from Omni-Heat Thermal Reflective fibers to keep you warm, while the lining is made with nylon ripstop to prevent breakage and Omni-Stain to stop the mess and the wind.

Uniqlo is at werq in the laboratory coming up with inovations like this: super light down coats that keep your super warm. This thing packs tiny to shove it away when you're inside.

Big Jacket, Pack It Small

I'm a sucker for a berry red coat. And more so for the handwarming pockets.

Ah, a North Face jacket we endorse. The construction is smart, and the inner hood is printed, the outside is mint! This guy has dual handwarmer pockets, Heatseeker Eco insulation in the hood, moisture wicking lining, HyVent waterproof shell, wrist accessories included and sensible pockets everywhere.

Skullcandy and Sessions teamed up for a snowboarding jacket that will blast the tunes as you ride. You've got the controllers on your arm and speakers in the hood.

For our friends in the land down under that are facing serious heat while we're freezing our tuckuses off, here is a Japanese invention that has actually taken flight within industries and individuals. Okay fine, individuals that live in the hottest apartment ever with no A/C, or that work in a sweltering truck yard. Whatever your reasoning, the jacket with fans built in will have you blowing cool inside your clothes.

Having never rode a motorcycle -- nor possessing the desire ever to ride one -- I've never had a motorcycle jacket. But who needs a hog when you've got these marvelous ruffled sleeves that practically yelp "Hell's Angel?"

Finally a man's heel -- 4.5" thank you -- in a man's size -- size 11 or 12, if you're wondering. I've actually worn a pair of these courtesy of one of my tranny friends and while they were literally torture, my legs looked 12 feet tall. And at the end of the day, that's all that really matters.

If there's one staple in my wardrobe, it's a harem pant. But lately I've been wanting more drop-crotch action and this crotch drops all the way to the knees. The closer it looks like I'm wearing a skirt, the better.

Givenchy has long been my favorite, aspirational mens line and these adorable tees are cropping up everywhere. During the winter months, the tropical motif will keep me from abandoning all hope and resigning myself to pajamas and hoodies everyday.

For those inevitable nights out on the town, why not a silk two-tone jumpsuit? It gives the appearance of separates but the comforting freedom that only a one-piece can provide.

I love a fashion book and there's been no fashion book I've wanted more this year than Carine Roitfeld's Irreverent, chronicling the ex editrix-in-chic's life and career.

I'm a proud bag lady and every few months I need to trade in the old for the new. Right now I'm operating with a fuchsia backpack, but this more grown-up messenger bag speaks to the bitter old queen inside of me -- whom most people tend to ignore.

Y-3 is launching some bright and unique high tops for Spring 2010. I love the speckled ones the most. Trying to find truly fashionable sneakers these days isn’t the easiest, but Y-3 does a good job. Be sure to check out everything Y-3 has to offer at their website.

If you thought drop-crotch pants were hard enough to describe, try explaining to a fellow fashionsta what a “spant” is. Take a look at the amazingness above and you’ll see that the edgy, athletic label, Y-3′s, spant isn’t a pair of pants or a skirt, but more like an oversized pair of wool/jersey shorts with a single, attached legging. The spant, complicated as it may be to explain, is incredibly versatile, with the ability to be dressed up with heels or dressed down with sandals. I’d totally rock this out with a slim tank and a boyfriend blazer. For $276, the Y-3 spant isn’t terribly priced, but I’d totally love to see these in superfine wool dresspants!

Why do guys commonly use the term “high-tops” to mean the classic Converse sneakers or the recently popular Nike Dunks? You can never go wrong pairing your black Converse with a pair of raw denim straight legs, a black button-up and a few accessories here and there. And we all know how versatile those Nike Dunks can be…a red and black pair to match your plaid or even neons to go with all of your hiliter yellows, oranges and greens. But take a look around…your brother, your cousin, your best friend’s uncle’s ex-wife’s son’s next-door neighbor ALL have these shoes. I assure you, there are other high-top options out there!

Above are a few pairs I came across while searching Ssense and Revolve Clothing. Although these high-tops are rather similar to the designs and concepts of Converse and Nike Dunks (slim fit, aeration pores, ankle laces) they have enough detail and flare to make them unique. Depending on the brand and material, these shoes can set you back anywhere from $100-$400…but it beats looking like every other Beatle band reject and fake NBA star out there!

Boring, way too sporty, and very similar to their last Spring collection, this seasons Y-3 was not even worth attending. They showed absolutly nothing innovative for next Spring and just represented current trends and ideas. Plus, how many sheer tops can you put on one runway and call it a fashion show?
