RUNWAY RUNDOWN: Yigal Azrouel Spring 2010

There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it, Yigal Azrouel’s Spring 2010 collection was a masterpiece. A dirty, disheveled sophistication was in full effect making torn tees, lopsided tops, distressed leathers and chaotic patterns more elegant than ever. Women’s pieces leaned towards the grungy glamour trend while menswear resembled the looks of having been washed ashore. Styled beautifully, complete with slick hair and simple makeup, Azrouel’s Spring 2010 collection is hard to surpass.

SHOP Yigal Azrouel on HAUTELOOK.COM, $203

While Yigal Azrouel may be making more headlines for friending Katie Lee (formerly Joel) than his designing genius, he’s still a budding fashion type we’ve grown to love. This ethereal dress is the perfect choice for making the scene. It used to be $675 but HauteLook.com has it for the highly covetable price of $203. Definitely a must.

RUNWAY RUNDOWN Yigal Azrouel Resort 2010

I would really like to have some kind of job someday where I get like a month off in the summer to go and sort of roam the earth. I have a terrible sort of wanderlust right now, especially being trapped in a cube all day long, when all I really want to do is hightail it across the globe to parts unknown in comfortably draped yet unbelievably fabulous travelin’ clothes. Enter Yigal Azrouel and his delicious Resort 2010 collection for us modern nomads at heart.
Because as much as I love me a gorgeous gown, I am pants girl to my very core, and how can you travel comfortably in skirts anyway? No no, give me that effortless, sleeveless, and incredibly chic grey jumpsuit over any sundress or caftan. Travel dressing is all about layers of course, because you never know what kind of weather you might encounter, and Azrouel’s aesthetic is all about the comfort and easy style of perfectly draped layers, be they belted and flared over some skinny jeans or loose and flowy with a structured cowl, the better to catch a cool breeze with. Even with seemingly tougher materials, strict leather and stern denim, by patchworking them together somehow they take on a new sensibility, a more relaxed quality and that incredible, perfect achievement of style, substance, and above all else, comfort.

Is Yigal Azrouël All Up in that Katie Lee Joel?!?

Rumors are sparking that Katie Lee Joel (celeb chef and wife of Billy Joel) might be getting a little too familiar with her designer pal Yigal Azrouel. The National Enquirer is speculating that Billy is furious over his wife’s new friend cause he initially thought the designer was gay. (Honest mistake, it is fashion after all.)
Yigal and Katie say they’re just friends. But good girls normally don’t stay friends with foreign, accent-using, young designers who have access to $5000 gowns. Just saying, watch your wife Piano Man.

Yigal Azrouel: Spring 2009 Collection

The latest Yigal Azrouel collection has hit stores already. I would know this because I have already looked into buying a few of the pieces from my local boutique. The collection is great for Spring, and though the season isn’t quite here yet, this collection certainly has me ready for it to be. Be sure to check out the entire collection, it is something worth owning in 2009.

Pamela Love x Zac Posen

Another great jewelry collaboration that hit New York Fashion Week was that between Pamela Love and Zac Posen. (Love also worked with Yigal Azrouel and Frank Tell for the Fall 2009 season.)
The collection is a mix of tough and pretty: delicate braids and spike-sprouting leaves and flowers.

AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
GQ’s second annual Best New Menswear Designers in America awards is on the horizon and the nominees are out. The project, in collaboration with the CFDA, will select one of six up and coming designers to design a capsule collection for Levi’s to be shown at a special event in New York City February 11, 2009, along with $50,000 cash. The list is pretty much legit, with recently recognized labels that have made a distinctive impact in the world of men’s fashion. May the best man win:
Benjamin Bixby (Andre Benjamin, designer)

Robert Geller (Robert Geller, designer)

Rogues Gallery (Alex Carleton, designer)

Save Khaki (David Mullen, designer)
