The Christian Louboutin-Yves Saint Laurent red-sole trademark battle is still raging on. Well, perhaps “raging” isn’t the right word…teetering on, if you will. Yesterday Diane von Furstenberg lent her support to the couture cobbler in the Manhattan courtroom where he sat before three Appeals Court judges to determine the fate of his sole.

Yves Saint Laurent is showing their manly side this spring with its first menswear ad campaign in almost five years. The last time YSL ran a menswear campaign was for fall 2007 when Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin shot industrial designer Marc Newsom. Reflecting, according to the house of YSL, the continued global growth of its men’s wear line, Stefano Pilati signed on David Sims to capture model Baptiste Radufe for spring 2012.

Classic old lady perfume Yves Saint Laurent Opium is experiencing a serious comeback, and Emily Blunt‘s face is making it happen. When YSL debuted the fragrance in 1977, the message was clear – Opium is an addictive perfume. More than three decades later, the scent is still viewed as guiltless provocation for some, “intellectual pollution” and an incitement to lechery for others. For its premier perfume, Louis Vuitton has picked a nose that knows. Noted nose, perfumer Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, has been tapped by the luxury brand to develop their first fragrance, reportedly using extracts from rare, nearly extinct, flowers.
