Fashion Quotable: Zooey Deschanel Disses on It Girls
“I’ve heard so many people say, so many times: ‘You’re this year’s It Girl!’ And I’m like, ‘You said that to me in 2001 and 2004.” - Zooey Deschanel Nylon Magazine’s It Girl of the Year on the stupidity (and redundancy) of the “It Girl” title.
Thanks to Complex for the quote.

NYLON Doesn’t Want You to Go Outside
NYLON debuted a new feature on their website this week, Shop Nylon.
If you’re a digital subscriber, you can flip through the pages of the online edition, click on featured clothing and other products, and be linked to online stores where you can buy your coveted items.
I’ve never been very skilled at turning virtual pages; but their October cover girl Zooey Deschanel is excited for this feature because she clearly needs a new pair of shorts.

Paper Mag’s 25 Most Stylish Songbirds
The HOT MESSES
The OUTSIDE THE BOX
PaperMag has officially named it’s 25 most stylish songbirds.
“From Stevie Nicks’ billowy dresses, to Grace Jones’s power-suits, to Madonna’s Gaultier bra, to Björk’s swan get-up, female musicians have a long history of making fashion statements. These days, the current crop of songstresses, both up-and-coming and fairly established, are carrying on the tradition. To honor these women and their impeccable senses of style, we decided to compile a list who we think are the 25 most fiercely fashionable femmes doing their thing in the music biz today. As a way to keep things organized, we divided up the gals into those that rock an ethereal, very L.A. flower child look, those who go for the chic high-fashion thing, those who dress like an early-’90s club kid, those who think outside of the fashion box and those who we lovingly like to refer to as hot messes.
Here are a few:
Aubrey O’Day of Danity Kane
And dare I write it: Amy Winehouse. Now, how this train wreck made this list is just unclear to me!

Anatomy of a Look: Rumer Willis
Welcome to a new feature on Style Indie called Anatomy of a Look.
This feature is reserved for those who rock a certain look, but fall several steps short of chic. I will dissect the look like it’s 9th grade science and then show how the outfit could work. Everyone has a style, however most times it just doesn’t work out.
For our inaugural edition we have Rumer Willis trying to rock the art-girl look.
The ‘art-girl’ look is hard to pull off because most people think you can just put what whatever you want together as an outfit and it’s artsy. Oh no! The truly chic ‘art girl’ knows it’s a delicate balance between quirkiness and polish. It’s so easy to look like Bjork’s twin when trying to rock this look.
Where to start? See the analysis, art-girl icons, and the look done right under the cut
