Clueless (1995)- If this 90′s classic wasn’t already on your top 10 movies list of style and rich girl ways well then start jotting! Alicia Silverstone is the best prepster out there, and no matter how old we are or how many fashion trends pass by Clueless will always remain a fashion favorite… through knee-high socks, more than enough argyle to handle, feminine school girl blazzers and especially because Britney Murphy was in it too!

Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion (1997)- A little on the dumb-ass side and I’m pretty sure no one would wear as much metallic and glitter as these two on screen best friends, but it’s still fun to watch their adventure in going back to their high school reunion and dominating the Madonna-inspired blasts from the pasts.

Spice World (1997)- Victoria Beckham‘s style may be taking over the style headlines a lot more than the Spice Girls do now, but it doesn’t mean that we would ever forget baby spice, scary spice, ginger spice, posh spice, sporty spice, or any other spices that I’m forgetting in between!

Jawbreaker (1999)- Catty and backstabbing what other way would a girl like their movies, when you accidentally kill your best friend in your favorite pumps?

The Virgin Suicides (1999)- When it comes to Kristen Dunst’s careless ways she makes any film look awesome! Sofia Coppola (director) filmed the movie in an angelic sort of sunlight state, and with the simplicity of the style on the girls, from sundresses to school outfits, the obsession of five boys falling in love with mysterious sisters begins, and they watch them on the road to suicide.

Factory Girl (2006)- Starring Sienna Miller as Edie Sedgwick a muse of all muses for the New York City life style of Andy Warhol. Not to mention, Mary-Kate Olsen gets her five minutes of fame getting to rock the furs and the smoking glam of this crazy 1960′s fashion filled film.

500 Days of Summer (2009)- Zooey Deschanel would be the perfect heart breaking type girl, with her vintage dresses and humorous ways as she completes every girls dream to crush the boy who’s insanely in love with her in nonchalant ways.

Whip It (2009)- Ellen Page plays a rebellious small town girl who creates a wicked life for herself in Austin, TX. And along with Drew Barrymoore and Landon Pigg she rocks her indie-child style with combat boots, random skirts, and bizarre rock band tees!

The Runaways (2010)- When hearing the names Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart you don’t normally think of one on one girl make out sessions or drug addict… which in their case would be a good thing but luckily these two actresses rocked the hell out of bringing the Joan Jett and Cherie Curie’s wild child style to life!

Black Swan (2010)- Obviously what kind of timeline would this be without listing Natalie Portman’s surprise act of dealing with perfection and giving us a mental image of just how good Rodarte ballet wear could be!

Madden originally approached Deschanel and agreed to pay her $2 million to overlook a line of shoes and accessories. The verbal agreement said she would get paid even if the line wasn’t produced but would cover 13 days of work including press appearances and a photo shoot.

But in October, Madden went to Deschanel‘s agent and said the deal was off. Remember, verbal agreements in California are binding, so she deserves the money right? Madden has already had a tough year in the press, so maybe he’ll just pay up to keep things quiet.

Like I keep saying, clean it up before the new year.

Keep an eye out for these independent ladies in style to stay inspired by their modern Parisian looks: Actress and singer/songwriter Charlotte Gainsbourg. French, fashion bloggers and designers Betty from Blog De Betty and Alix The Cherry Blossom Girl. Also UK journalist Alexa Chung is one to follow with her new fashion line being heavily influenced by horizontal stripes, blazers and sweaters.

To get the look, keep your color pallet very simple. Black, white, neutral tones and gray. Must haves are a stripped pattern, nautical tee, a dark colored blazer, fitted, cotton pant or jeans and if you’re really serious about it, a gorgeous trench coat. Dressing up requires the most famous “little black dress” and add some flirty-ness to it with a bow in the hair like Zooey deschanel. Keep the hair and make-up natural and don’t be late for your date at La boutique de Cafe.

Rimmel London signed on three new faces to star in its campaigns this year: Zooey Deschanel, Solange Knowles, and model Alejandra Ramos Munoz.LINK LOVE: WWD

In a city where woman are often portrayed as wearing giant sunglasses, Juicy Couture tracksuits, and carrying around tiny dogs, Summer’s look really stands out and shows a different style that can be found on the streets of LA. Her look could be described as modern-retro—and has a wardrobe mixed with new and vintage pieces. Zooey Deschanel’s character is always seen wearing something blue, which costumer Hope Hanafin says was inspired by the color of Zooey’s eyes.

This was done purposefully, as to make her character stand out to the audience, since nobody else is seen in that color. This color trait is also something that Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character Tom associates with Summer, when you see that everyone is wearing blue in the dance sequence the night after Summer and Tom hook-up.

I absolutely loved the costumes throughout the film—especially how adorable Tom looked in his sweater vests, skinny ties, suits, and graphic tees. Style definitely played a big role in the movie and storyline. It even added charm to Summer’s unlikable qualities, which allows you to understand why Tom could be infatuated with her, even though she’s not everything he thinks she is.

This past weekend, Zooey and Emily Deschanel helped host a benefit for the Humane Society, sponsored by Vanity Fair and Cotton Incorporated. They both showed their support for no fur and leather by wearing these cotton, vintage outfits. Emily’s creamsicle dress, from The Way We Wore, especially popped amongst the crowd.

Proving that cotton can be fashionable, outfits from Zooey’s Cotton Incorporated commercial and the movie (500) Days of Summer were on display around the room.

These days, the current crop of songstresses, both up-and-coming and fairly established, are carrying on the tradition. To honor these women and their impeccable senses of style, we decided to compile a list who we think are the 25 most fiercely fashionable femmes doing their thing in the music biz today. As a way to keep things organized, we divided up the gals into those that rock an ethereal, very L.A. flower child look, those who go for the chic high-fashion thing, those who dress like an early-’90s club kid, those who think outside of the fashion box and those who we lovingly like to refer to as hot messes.

This feature is reserved for those who rock a certain look, but fall several steps short of chic. I will dissect the look like it’s 9th grade science and then show how the outfit could work. Everyone has a style, however most times it just doesn’t work out.

For our inaugural edition we have Rumer Willis trying to rock the art-girl look.

The ‘art-girl’ look is hard to pull off because most people think you can just put what whatever you want together as an outfit and it’s artsy. Oh no! The truly chic ‘art girl’ knows it’s a delicate balance between quirkiness and polish. It’s so easy to look like Bjork’s twin when trying to rock this look.

The Rundown:

Silhouette: The staple of any good artsy girl is the high waisted bottom. When doing this you should rarely have a top not tucked into the bottom. Her skirt is actually nice but it’s the black slouchy top that kills the quirkiness of the skirt.

Accessories: Half-tights really? What are you Corey Kennedy? The only thing worse than being trendy, is still wearing that trend a year later. It’s summer and it’s hot as hell. So ditch the tights. And ditch the 1970′s-Grandma glasses. Geek some cool geek glasses that’s what all the cool kids are wearing!

Hair and Makeup: This girl can’t seem to find a hair cut that looks good on her, can she? The bob is a perfect hair cut for the artsy-girl. However there’s nothing chic about stringy hair.

The Verdict: Looks like Urban Outfitters had their way with her! Her look is unfortunate but not completely lost.

The Icons

Sofia Coppola: Coppola is the perennial art girl. As a former student at Cal Arts and intern at Chanel-she knows a thing or two about art girl chic. She breaks the perceived rules of fashion by rocking flats on the red carpet. As she has entered her thirties she has streamlined her arty-girl look into polished quirkiness.

Zooey Deschanel: Still in her twenties, Deschanel has come out as the as the actress fashion people can stand. She doesn’t relay on a stylist and her instincts in fashion are never wrong. She has a respect for the past and incorporates that into every look. The secret to her success is in unexpected accessories that tie the look together.
