Controversial and notorious, photographer Terry Richardson has never produced boring work, whether he’s turning his camera lens on Barack Obama, Jay-Z or the cast of Jersey Shore. However, supermodel and women’s rights advocate Rie Rasmussen spoke out against him at a party in Paris, calling his work manipulative and degrading towards young girls.
“I told him what you do is completely degrading to women,” Rasmussen told the NY Post. “I hope you know you only [bleep] girls because you have a camera, lots of fashion contacts, and get your pictures in Vogue.”
Certainly Richardson’s portfolio contains some explicit, provacative, and borderline offensive shots, but that’s what captured the fashion industry’s attention in the first place, leading to campaigns for Chloe and work published in mags like Purple and Harper’s Bazaar.
To each their own, I guess.
