I am the biggest proponent for drug store cosmetics. I’ve tried it all – from uber expensive designer eyeshadow to 99 cent Wet-n-Wild lipstick, and I’ve honestly had absolutely no problem with your run of the mill Maybelline and Cover Girl. It’s always stayed on all day, never smeared and always managed to looked good. The only thing I can never seem to get right, though, is my foundation. I’ve tried both liquid and powder foundation – the test periods usually last about a week until I’m not impressed and have to try something else. My problem? Traditional liquid foundation gives me gnarly break outs, so I switch to “skin-clearing” liquid foundation with salicylic acid, but that stuff has absolutely no coverage. So then I’ll switch to powder foundation, which provides awesome coverage and masks any oiliness I have, but ends up clogging my pores and rubs off by the end of the day. Very frustrating!

So, I was offered to try some products from a line called THEVI. I was really excited to try something new, especially with summer being here – which usually requires a change up in makeup due to the smokin’ heat emulating from that huge fiery thing in the sky.

A Little Info on THEVI Cosmetics

THEVI is formulated for women of various ethnicities…well, I’m a white girl so where does that leave me? Don’t worry, THEVI colors are made for a range of light to dark skin. The entire line has a very Indian-esque vibe to it, which is perfectly fine with me, seeing as how women from that region are some of the most beautiful women in the world…gorgeous complexions and eye liner swiped on like it’s an art. THEVI really does celebrate ethnicity, diversity and culture – which is extremely refreshing considering the fact that, 9 times out of 10, you’re likely to see a white girl in a Cover Girl commercial. THEVI is a better brand, so you’ll have to pay a bit extra for it. But, after what I’ve been through with foundation, it’s worth it.

I’ve been trying two of their products for about a week now: Mineral Foundation Powder and Automatic Long Lasting Eyeliner (I wear super black eye liner every day – so I need a good one that will stay all day). The need to try a new foundation has already been explained, but eye liner is huge for me, and Indian women are famous for their kohl rimmed eyes, so I had to try the eye liner.

The Verdict

I have to say, aside from my devotion to drug store brands, the THEVI products I’ve been using are probably the best I’ve tried in a very long time. The eye liner stays on all day…ALL DAY, with absolutely no smudging. You don’t have to press down like a maniac to get a nice dark black color, either. One light swipe is all you need and your eyes look like they’re rimmed with pure kohl. I’ve even had a few, ahem, late nights, which caused me to sleep in my makeup. I woke up the next day and didn’t even need to re-apply my eye liner (a little grody I know..but hey, it’s my life). I’m devoted to this eyeliner now. No joke.

As for the powder foundation, LOVE IT! For one, it soaks up my oiliness like a sponge (don’t say it’s gross…you get oily, too). I do have to re-apply a bit in the middle of the day, but it’s flippin’ hot out here in southern Cali so that’s to be expected. The coverage is great and, because it’s a mineral powder, it’s excellent for my skin, which has actually cleared up a lot since I started using this product. It also comes in a killer gunmetal shiny compact, which looks super edgy in your makeup bag. Side note: it doesn’t come with a sponge or poof (unless I’m missing something), so you’ll want to get one or use a brush. The color I have is “Sand” and it’s perfect. It looks very natural – the hubs is usually always complaining that I have too much foundation on, but since I started using this he’s actually complimented my face makeup, which is a first.

I seriously, seriously recommend THEVI. Yes, it’s a bit pricier than what I would normally get, but, again, so so worth it. It’s your face, you should put quality ingredients on it. Check out everything THEVI has to offer on their website. thevicosmetics.com. Thanks THEVI!
