Last night we toasted to a new store and summer 2012 collection from our fabulous Designer Daily Tucker by Gaby Basora. StyleLikeU brought out all the most fabulously dressed to fill the store with fresh swank. We mingled with bloggers and the likes, drank Arizona Ice Tea cocktails (yum) and doted over the loudest prints (YUM) from the Tucker’s first flagship. With her studio in the backend of the store, swing by, and you might meet the designer! We did, and we asked her a few of our curious questions.
How long had you been dreaming about opening your own store?
You know, it happened inadvertently. My old studio burnt down. To the ground . In July. In Meatpacking. It was a little surreal to have a new space. Now it feels great, but it was definitely bittersweet.
Oh, that’s awful! Did your important information backed up anywhere?
Burnt to the ground, all of our paper patterns. Things that were in development. It was such a fall. I didn’t cry. Because I think in the end it’s stuff, and so now it feels great. I think you get pigeonholed a bit as a designer for what you do, so it’s nice with the store because I can do whatever I want to do, and present, and have a way to show it. I feel like people are loving and embracing everything that we’re doing.
Here’s a question to put you on the spot, like picking your favorite child…
I have 3, so that’s very difficult too.
Is there a piece your most excited about in this collection?
That’s kind of impossible to ask because I think that you dress depending on your mood, how you feel, and what you don’t want to feel. I feel like there are so many pieces in the collection that speak to different moods and moments.
Fair enough, so which pieces do you find yourself wearing most?
These coats – we’ve done them all different fabrics. Also the button up shirt. I’ve been wearing [it] a lot, buttoned up to the neck.
Flip through to see the vibes of the pretty party!
