You are completely dead on with your explanations of how main stream other fashion magazines have become. I used to subscribe to all of the ones you mentioned (minus lucky because that is basically like throwing away your money) but i would really appreciate if you did elaborate on W. Out of any magazine, I think they take the most risk and feature the most interesting material. Sure, Madonna and Lohan have appeared in them too many times, but you have to admit that the W editorials are always brilliant and there is always something new and interesting to be said about the celebs. What do you think?

its true that the william norwich section of vogue has filled waaaaaay too many pages (though i do love his etiquette column!!) and dont even get me started on andre leon talley's column...i was once obsessed with it, but now its a yawn fest.

BUT

lets do a comparison between vogue and other fashion magazines.

harpers bazaar has become a glossed up version of lucky - not to mention if i have to read one more column on why spending the money on clothes is an investment...or see anymore of lindsay lohan - i may have to go to the bazaar offices, put glenda bailey in one of those medieval things - where they put your hands and feet through those circles and you have to sit there all day -- and make her watch the financial channels (maybe even kramer's show on a loop).

elle was doing a good job this year, but its starting to go the way of bazaar.

dont even get me started on W.

vogue is at least still full of interesting articles and beautiful photography. you just have to make it past the dullsville beginning.

i also think that we all need to take responsibility for what is happening to our magazines. the truth is they are a reflection of mass culture nowadays. and thats sad. if we stopped dumbing ourselves down and being obsessed with celebrities and reality tv and this glamorous charity ball circuit world (case in point, the fact that "the city" was even aired once - and that people like it) then perhaps the magazines wouldn't have to sell this drivel to us - and can go back to being what they once were.

I agree, but what new visions has Ms. Horyn given us? She has just as much responsibility as a fashion journalist to locate the pulse and take the knife to sacred cows. I don't see that her point of view differs substantially from her peers who work only in traditional media.
