When people ask me why W is my favorite magazine, I usually go into nauseous detail about how I flip directly to the back and fawn over the brilliant editorials for hours. But to be quite frank, W’s most recent spread, “100% Fashion” has me 100% embarrassed for being such an advocate for the magazine. It is possible that the styling in this spread is some of the best I’ve seen W do, but this spread is an absolute buzz kill, dulling down what had the potential for an award winning editorial. To me, shoving well styled models in front of a blank or boringly simple background is a sign of laziness and thoughtlessness. The family portrait shots don’t lend themselves well to the immaculate fashion, nor do the random couches–this has all been done, too many times, before.
Obviously, one bad apple don’t spoil the whole bunch and I still love W, but hopefully they realize that slacking in the editorial department makes an entire issue look bad. Besides the incredible clothes, this is certainly one spread to line the birdcage with…
