boys are most definitely the new men.

i do believe we are at the heralding of a new generation of men, where menswear has finally caught up to women's in regards to caring about the true style of clothing over the commercial marketing potential of a classic trend.

i wear the few pieces of TB and black fleece i have splurged on from sales racks all the time. i know tom ford is all about luxury and glamour, but i feel as though i am wearing the most luxurious clothing in the world in my beautifully tailored herringbone thom browne suit. and im proud to wear it. love thom browne, so chic.

I must agree with the post before me, while Thom Browne's look may not suit everyone, his originality and style places him in a level above the Tom Fords and Ralph Laurens of the fashion industry. His attempt to reinvent the classic suit and menswear along with it, has caused an uproar, but in my opinion it has set a new standard for the quality and level of design in mens clothing.

In regards to the question of masculinity in menswear, I must contemplate on Mr. Browne's quote, "An idea that is confident, always looks masculine." Mr. Browne invokes the confidence of both the man who wears his clothing and the original idea behind their creation to define the masculinity of his designs. As opposed to rehashing typical menswear staples and styles, boringly if with high quality, that has defined Tom Ford's new line for men, Thom Browne has looked back to other masculine styles (notably of the 1950s and 1960s) but has reinterpreted them for a new and original product. The confidence of the clothing is thus represented in two ways, in both the masculine fabrics and history of design seen in the actual clothing, and the confidence and attitude of the man who wears the clothing.

I have to say, isn't Thom Browne's look more of a conceptual thing? In a world that runs rampant with over-compensatory feminists, are men looking to re-claim some power for truly equal rights? Is Mr. Browne saying that he believes the man should be figuratively bigger than the clothes?

While I am not a fan of the Thom Browne look for men, I like the concept of re-inventing the suit. I think that a mixture of traditional style with something new could be really great.

For instance:

 (from the sartorialist)
I think this picture is a good harmony of both worlds.
