WTF!?! Kate Lanphear Sits BEHIND Celebrities At G-Star Raw Spring 2010

Picture 1

I just got back from the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show, and while I should be left with impressions of the clothing, I can’t help but wonder why Kate Lanphear, style director of Elle Magazine, was seated behind celebrities Juliette Lewis, Kat Von D, Eric Balfour and Leonor Varela, let alone on the side runway (yep, that’s her in the upper left corner!) I admire Lanphear’s support of fashion, as I’ve seen her at numerous shows and throughout the tents this past week, and I feel like her influence is far more important than an actor’s or tattoo artist’s.

If I learned one thing during this season’s fashion week, it’s this: DAMN PUBLIC RELATIONS PEOPLE NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.

It is clearly obvious Kirby Marzec neither attended the fashion show nor researched the G-Star fashion show set up.

Had she done so she would have noticed that Kate Lanphear is indeed in the front row. This fashion show like previous G-Star NYFW shows involves the models walking around the spectators. If she had taken the extra second to flick through the zimbo images she would have not only notice models walking directly in front of Kate Lanphear but the photographer facing the opposite direction sitting directly behind the celebrities in her article shot.

If I have learned one thing about this website's coverage on NY FW it's this: DAMN JOURNALIST NEED TO GET THEIR SHIT TOGETHER.

Well, Guvnor07, I in fact did attend the G-Star NYFW show and happened to be sitting three rows behind Kate (in the B section if you're itching for details). There is no doubt that the diagonal runway was the MAIN runway, after-all, that's where the looks appeared first during the show. Had Anna Wintour been sitting where Kate sat, trust me, shit would have hit the fan. It technically was "front row" but on a side runway and still behind celebrities.
I just think it's more important to sit an established fashion editor/style director/creative director etc. on the MAIN runway over celebrities. It is called a FASHION show. FASHION should take precedence over celebrities.
Oh, and if this post offended you because I took a stab at PR people, I stand behind it 100%. Daniel, Corey and I were all confirmed for G-Star Raw Spring 2010 (I can forward you the e-mail if you don't believe me) and yet they couldn't find our seating assignment on their list. Disorganization and confusion is solely to blame.

So, Guvnor, my shit is together. My perspective is radiating. My opinion is strong. Take it or leave it.

She actually was in the front row. It's just an angled show. (I'm the one one over from her)

Yes, front row, but not on the main, elevated runway.
  • Hey Kirby... from all the comments, I could see there was just a misunderstanding. You said in your article she wasn't in the front row, when I believe she just wasn't in the main runway's front row -as you specified in your comments bellow.
That's really simple. lol Lot's of fuss for nothing ppl.

I do agree with Kirby, anyway, she (Kate) should have been seated on the main runway's front row.

But it did cause some confusion what the article said.

Have a great night, everyone! ;)

The issue is that people are more inclined to be influenced by celebrities than by fashion editors these days. If any of those celebrities on the front row choose to rock G-Star in the next few weeks, that will be worth more than a soundbite in Elle Magazine. Don't get me wrong, I do not agree with it, and having worked with a PR firm who switched people around at the last minute, even asking people to get up after they were seated to accomodate a late arriving celebrity, the fact remains that the younger generations don't read magazines anymore.
