Runway: Zang Toi, Fall 08
Zang Toi is a New York based Malaysian fashion designe. Toi left his native Malaysia at the age of eighteen, and via Toronto, landed in NYC a year later. There he attended Parsons, and in 1989, with a modest collection of bright sarongs, strong suits and regal dresses, he opened his own atelier. Instantly, the personable, affable and remarkable Toi made a name for himself among fashion. Since then, Toi has cultivated his business into an international success story. The House of Toi signature collection or the “Z” collection, his moderately priced bridge line, Toi’s creations are original, feminine and exude glamour in every way.
His Fall 2008 collection showcased glamorous furs, cocktail dresses, and an array of black outfits. Accessorized with ski glasses, the collection was full of contrasting patterns of black and white. Although I would have loved to see some color from this designer, the essence of the collection was still apparent. Clean and chic, stylish yet sophisticated, edgy and sexy, the collection encompassed the designers’ view of what is NY style.
