Carrie Bradshaw’s Guide to Valentine’s Day Lingerie
V-day is nearly upon us, and with it, a swooning deluge of NYC women with Sex and the City dreams. In honor of the holiday of love, I make my way to Nordstrom to find some intimates worthy of my own Mr.Big and get down to what made Carrie Bradshaw the quintessential cheeky coquette by rummaging through her underwear drawer.
Carrie Bradshaw, forever immortalized by Sarah Jessica Parker, has been an inspiration for all girls looking for their Mr.Big in this big city of ours. Though fictional, her style continues to be imitated and discussed by modern day Bradshaws, better known as fashion addicted bloggers like me, who critique her choices and try to find modern day takes on the legacy she left.
In an attempt to dissect this fashion icon, I hit up Nordstrom to find pieces which got me down right intimate with Bradshaw, meaning, I went and shopped for undies.
Scanning the selection, I found a few pieces which felt in the spirit of Carrie including a Betsey Johnson ‘Heart’ Mesh Slip, In Bloom by Jonquil ‘Cherries’ Nightie & G-String and a pair of Hanky Panky ‘Hearts’ low rise thongs.
Being the industrious little blogger I am, I planned out a few outfits which would fit each piece.
Carrie was always ready for a rendezvous and never made the mistake of hitting up a New York event without the right combination of high fashion and delicate, feminine touches, like a pair of lacy Honeydew Intimates boyshorts. I spotted this Herve Leger and instantly saw it as an outfit of choice for a Bradshaw on the prowl. Paired with sultry Saint Laurent heels and a DVF clutch, eau de Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge in the air, and it’s a look worthy of city hotspots like personal fave, Beauty & Essex.
Back when Mr.Big wasn’t all that available, Carrie would often find herself at his hotel room door, ready for a romp. Hiding under this trench, an In Bloom by Jonquil ‘Cherries’ Nightie & G-String, in the bag, a change of clothes for tomorrows walk of delightful shame. Playing the other woman wasn’t a role suited for Bradshaw, but it was definitely one she knew how to style. I could imagine a modern day Bradshaw rocking a pair of Valentino’s, Saint Laurent overnight bag in hand, wearing nothing but her unmentionables underneath a Burberry Trench.
Behind every girl, is a group of friends critiquing every guy she dates, and for Carrie, these friends were as memorable as she was. Frequently found brunchin at NYC’s hot spots, this quad of sisterhood would often dress down for a little togetherness. Pairing a loose fitting pair of rag & bone boyfriends with a loose fitting Isabel Marant top, I could imagine the modern day Carrie opting for some Hanky Panky ‘Hearts’ low rise panty underneath it all. With a Reed Krakoff Micro Boxer and standing tall in Prada two strap wedges, I can see this look coming together with a Tom Binns necklace.
