A celebration of a luxury landmark, fashion royalty came out in full force at the Bergdorf Goodman 111th birthday gala at the Plaza Hotel in NYC. Read ahead for all the celebs, surprises, and style shots of everyone from Anna Wintour to Carolina Herrera.
The Plaza Hotel was virtually unrecognizable after the creative touches of Bergdorf Goodman moved in on Thursday evening. A giant violet crocodile welcomed us as we entered the fairy tale reception hall where a electric violin quartet set the mood. Overwhelmed with couture gowns and elaborate flower displays, I armed myself with champagne before waltzing into the formal reception hall.
This is where they really brought out the veritable bells and whistles. Guests were filled with a genuine sense of delight as they walked through a museum like display of iconic BG window displays. White cotton clouds hung from the ceiling, oversized animated animals were set up in the corners, and beautiful trees and flowers were spread out through the space.
And then there was the fashion. Linda Fargo in a one shouldered Bergdorf Goodman printed silk dress, Anna Wintour in a floral print skirt, the Marchesa designers in their namesake collection, Rita Orr in a white column gown, and so much more. I was in the midst of chatting with a man in a velvet parka when someone pointed out I had stepped on a bit of organza. When I turned around, I saw a young woman slowly fall onto the floor into a massive pile of Oscar de la Renta tulle! You know you’re at a fashion gala when you are literally running over couture.
A high energy band performed while a five foot tall cake was wheeled out in front of the Bergdorf’s team, and party guests danced the night away. And these weren’t just any guests. We’re talking Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera chatting in between a dancing polar bear and a giraffe. Zac Posen, Coco Rocha, and Rita Ora dancing by a hot air balloon chandelier. Karolina Kurkova in a printed pant suit (we accidentally photobombed her below).
Between the stunning environment, the fashion, the guests, and the free flowing champagne it was an absolutely exquisite evening. Happy birthday Bergdorf’s!
