TRENDSPARK: Skinny Boyfriends
Ok ladies, I’m taking the initiative and telling you that it’s about time you throw those muscular, beefy studs of yours to the wayside. Forget about the safety you feel in their arms, it’s all about being able to wrap yours around him three times. Baby faces, structured jaws, quirky smirks and skinny jeans are a must. Oh, and if you can’t see a ribcage, don’t even bother.
Okay, so now that I’ve basically made my Craigslist post for my ideal boyfriend, the real reason I posted this photo via Jak & Jil Blog is because I love candid model shots…it just so happens that I’d date any and all of these guys…perhaps at the same time.
God, I’m a creep.

TRENDSPARK: Eye Tricks
You have to look closely at these items to assure yourself that they are as they appear. The first time that I saw the Comme Des Garcons shoes I had to do a double take….they are quite interesting. I do However, remember that this same trend was popular among some designers a few years ago.

TRENDSPARK: Greasy Hair?
I love the grunge look and all, but this grease-ball trend, as seen in Jonathan Saunders’ Spring 2010 runway show, is a little overkill. I have long, thin hair and it usually gets greasy after about 4 hours of being out and about. I’m not sure about you, but when the grease appears, I get a little self conscious and have to pull my mess of hair into a ponytail. I understand the effect Saunders is going for, the whole “I’m a cute, innocent little gem but I’ve got a few bad habits” look, but I don’t see the appeal of looking like you cooked bacon on your head. If anything, this Trendspark should end up on your list of “Don’ts” and remind you to wash your hair…stat.

Gwen Stefani Rocks The Side Boob
Gwen Stefani goes all natural (without her signature red lip and wild hairdo) and rocks the current trend of side boob (the exposed side boob/bra, something we’ve been seeing a lot lately).

TRENDSPARK: Heavy Metal Jewelry
I’m loving these heavy metal necklaces seen in Lanvin’s F/W ‘09 show..think they’ll be big this fall?
Plan B has come out with their own recycled jewelry, in the same heavy metal form. I love how chunky it is, this just screams DIY.

Not sure if this is worth a TrendSpark but you never know if this sort of thing will become something…kinda like the monogram, def a conversation started.
What do you guys think? Yay or nay?

TRENDSPARK: Slicked Back Hair
The Spring/Summer 10 shows have been full of slicked back hair. You know what that means: hair stylists have been through an unimaginable amount of gel and are sporting some very sticky hands upon their exit of the tents. Will you be joining the force of sticky fingered fashion folk this spring?

One of the biggest items in jewelry right now is the chunky necklace. It’s a statement piece that can transform even the most basic outfit. TRENDSPARK: Guys In Glitter
I’m not quite sure who’s idea it was to put glitter all over Tyson Ritter of the All-American Rejects and have him perform shirtless, but I have to say, it translated really well on stage. Ritter never struck me as the type to wear glitter, but he did a good job flashing his beanpole body around during their performance last night. Think this could be the new look for rockstars?

TRENDSPARK: Men In Color-blocking
As dictated by Raf Simons in Thomas Lohr’s spread for GQ Style Germany #16 Fall 2009, color-blocking isn’t just for the ladies! I didn’t think color-blocking would be flattering, let alone masculine, on the guys, but by the looks of these incredible Simons pieces, I’m liking the looks of it! Keep your eyes peeled for the color-blocked suits, because I can see these bad boys hitting mass market sooner rather than later!
Thanks Coute Que Coute!

TRENDSPARK: Winter White
I’ve always hated “rules” in the fashion world. In a world of fantasy, extravagance and fun, who needs rules? Thankfully, this winter my least favorite rule is being thrown out the window. Refinery 29’s Pipeline has a top 10 list of the best winter white items, and I want ever single one. From the furry vests, to the Dr. Martins, to the metal watches it’s all on my wish list! Something about a stark white against the dark, dull colors of winter is so appealing. The best thing about this trend? Everyone has a little white in their wardrobe, so all you have to do is shop your closet!

TRENDSPARK: I can’t ear you
What’s with all the animal ears? Apparently it’s the new headband for fall. The Olson twins, Lady Gaga and Lily Allen are all fans, so why aren’t you? Check out the link below if you want to throw out a few bones and make Halloween come early this year.

TRENDSPARK: Timeless Androgyny
It wasn’t until I was saw Mikael Jansson’s spread for Vogue Paris September 2009 that I realized what my favorite fall trend is: timeless androgyny. Inspired by Diane Keaton’s role as Annie Hall, Jansson’s spread features model Anna Jagodzinska dressed in an array of androgynous 70’s menswear. While the androgyny trend is a few seasons running, I love the simple, professional and somewhat preppy feel of this trendy throwback. But remember ladies, keep the hair and makeup feminine and simple to avoid the butch/costume/tranny look!

TRENDSPARK: Cuff Earrings
Seen on the runways at Alexander Wang and popping up on blog queens such as Rumi from Fashion Toast you can expect this no pain lots of gain trend to be everywhere. Budget friendly options come from Nasty Gal, 80’s Purple and Urban Outfitters incase you thew yours out from the middle school days, when you weren’t allowed to get pierced and had to fake it until you made it. I’m still content to fake it, especially with all these amazing options.

TRENDSPARK: Knightwear
Armored accessories have been all over the place lately, and it’s going to get heavier as fall comes. I absolutely love this metal vest, and it’s totally transferrable from runway to every day. This would look awesome for a night out! (And for guys or girls)

Paper Bags: The New “It” Bag?
Hold on to your shopping bags, because they may just be the next, big accessory to carry around. Teens in Tokyo, Japan have created a paper bag trend in the city, by using the bags as actual accessories to carry their every-day items in. Don’t think you can get away with carrying just any bag around, though. This rising trend follows the same rule of fashion as any other—the bigger the brand, the better.
It’s highly doubtful that this will fully replace anyone’s favorite Marc Jacobs tote, but it is a fun and eco-friendly way of sporting a designer brand.

BEAUTY SPARK: Nude/Skin Colored Pedi
Not sure if this is worthy of a BeautySpark, but if the Glamour girls say it is then it is. I’m more for keeping your toes clean and pretty, you don’t need nude polish for that, just the occasional pedi, but I agree that this is a great way to elongate your toes and not distract from the cute shoes…

DESIGNER TO KNOW: Valou
Valou’s 3cap rings are making a huge appearance in the world of fashion lately, and being picked up by all sorts of fashion and music peeps: Dirk Mai (the first to wear this amazing ring), LIGHTS, Demi Lovato, Audrey Kitching, Nick Santino from A Rocket To The Moon, and Mandy Jiroux..and those were only the ones I could find photos of! The mens rings run around $175, and the women’s $125, but it’s way worth it for the statement you’ll be making with this ring. Definitely a cooler alternative to the over the knuckle two and three fingered rings everyone is wearing lately, if you wear a Valou ring, you’re sure to be asked about it.
Head over to the site to purchase a ring and find out about sizing, there isn’t much info on the designer, but if you know Fashion Indie at all, we’ll investigate it and get your more information (maybe even an interview!) as soon as we can.
Here’s some photos of people we love rocking Valou 3caps:
