Where Oh Where Has My Little Kate Gone?

Where Oh Where Has My Little Kate Gone? For those of you out and about during New York Fashion Week, you probably noticed something missing from the front row: Kate Lanphear, Fashion Editor at Elle Magazine . As my favorite fashion person, I tend to keep my eyes peeled for Lanphear, especially during Fashion Week. But this season, Lanphear was MIA from the shows she typically shows up at. Rebecca attended about 25 shows and only spotted Lanphear at BCBG and William Rast. Last season, Lanphear was the front row favorite at shows like Rad Hourani and G-Star (although she didn’t actually sit front row last season) but she was missing from both this season!

Perhaps we weren’t as intuitive this season, but did anyone else see Lanphear at any other shows? I’m worried.

RUNWAY: Victor de Souza Fall/Winter 2010

Alien like creatures modeled the Victor de Souza Fall/Winter collection. The hair and makeup, worthy of a McQueen runway, was perfect, creating a nightmare like presence by forming a memory in the minds of the audience. The gowns, just as dramatic as the beauty, were memorable, in a sense that they made the viewer glance carefully as if not knowing what they were looking at.

RUNWAY: Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall 2010 Womenswear and Menswear

RUNWAY: Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall 2010 Womenswear and Menswear RUNWAY: Zero + Maria Cornejo Fall 2010 Womenswear and Menswear Maria Cornejo’s Fall 2010 Zero + Maria Cornejo collection was all about texture and androgyny. Thick wool, corduroy, leather, shimmery silk, tweed, fur and fuzzy thread made appearances in a collection of jackets, harem pants, billowing blouses, gowns and mini dresses. It’s safe to say that Cornejo covered every piece a dark, enigmatic dresser could want.

Sidenote: the floor is amazing.

TV RECAP: Project Runway Episode #6

TV RECAP: Project Runway Episode #6

Episode 6 of Project Runway kicked off with a challenge for the kids. Designers were asked to create a children’s look for the runway, but halfway through the process Tim stopped by with a bit of  a twist. The  season 7 designers were told to create a companion piece for an adult that complemented the children’s look they had created. As the models and their mini-me’s took the runway, Seth took the prize for immunity as Janeane was cut from the competition.

QUOTE: Justin Timberlake on The Success of William Rast

“I guess I think it’s because we’re not trying to be something that we’re not. We’re consistent with our culture and we’ll always be that way. The way to build a brand is that people like to depend on things and we want to be the kind of brand that people can depend of. I don’t think we’re trying to be couture, and I think the fashion world–I think we gain more respect for not trying so hard and just emulating the designs that we love. And we’ll continue to do that.”

RUNWAY: Threeasfour Fall 2010 Womenswear

RUNWAY: Threeasfour Fall 2010 Womenswear Designer Gabi Asfour brought us a clever alchemy themed Fall 2010 Threeasfour collection, tapping into the seven metals of alchemy. Beyond the plethora of to-die-for metallics, Asfour’s designs defied logic. Stacked, twisted rope, leather cutouts, billowing sheers and tri-fabric tights were just some of the collection’s highlights.

RUNWAY: Jill Stuart Fall 2010 Womenswear

RUNWAY: Jill Stuart Fall 2010 Womenswear Jill Stuart’s Fall 2010 collection screamed winter in London. Ruched dresses, lace-up knee boots, oversized scarves, floor length trench coats, bell hats and velvet mini dresses were turned motherland with classic tartan plaids, reds and blacks. It’s a major improvement from her Spring 2010 collection, but Stuart still has a few issues with putting on a show. With a music cut out, several delays between models and a last look that simply didn’t appear, I’m beginning to think Stuart needs to seek a new venue for her show and/or hire more models and a better sound crew. It’s Fashion Week lady, there’s no room for mistakes.
