RUNWAY: Abed Mahfouz Fall/Winter 2010 2011

Yesterday, I attended the Abed Mahfouz show at the Altman Building. I really loved the collection, which was a first from this relatively unknown designer, his fall 2010 presentation inspired by a woman’s femininity. I fell in love with the glamorous gowns with raised shoulders, the jumpsuits and every other piece in this well designed showing.

The show was divided into two sections: daytime appropriate looks and sexy attire for night, for which the lights were dimmed and models wearing dresses, tops and shoes perfect for clubbing in the hottest Meat Packing clubs appeared on the runway.

RUNWAY: Diego Binetti Fall/Winter 2010

Showing at Fashion Week since 2001, Binetti’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection, which he showed at Exit Art Gallery on February 14th, featured floor lenght silk gowns in solid colors of deep tones and print motifs. “I want this collection to be magical; I want the Binetti woman to feel my touch and see my vision through my elaborate garments,” says the designer. “My upcoming collection will feature a woman who possesses passion and intelligence. She understands culture and takes advantage of the beauty that I translate into my art.”

VIDEO RUNWAY: Erin Fetherston Fall/Winter 2010

One of the most boring collections I’ve seen this season, I could honestly not wait for this show to end as I quietly sat in back row trying to get cell phone reception. I shared an elevator with Whitney Port on my way to Erin, which got me a bit more excited about the presentation, as I am not a big fan of her work. And to no surprise, I utterly disliked most, if not all, of the pieces. It felt overdone, like she was trying very hard to mimic her own style, presenting a collection titled ‘Chelsea Girls.’ I was also overly distracted by the obviously attached bangs, which was another ode to Erin herself, making me wonder why a designer would send personal clones down the runway. A total thumbs down to this Fall/Winter 2010 showcase!

RUNWAY: Twinkle by Wenlan Fall/Winter 2010

I was so impressed with the looks that came down the runway Saturday night at the Twinkle by Wenlan show!  Chunky cozy knits mixed with silk prints made for a totally luxurious feel for a very geometric-inspired collection.  The color palette was a mix of muted grey, navy, and olive with pops of purple, fuchsia, and marigold.  My favorite pieces were the lofty cut-out knit sleeveless sweater with the matte leather skinny pants. Let’s not forget about the accessories – rocker inspired jewelry – it never gets old!  Overall the show reminded me of walking through an open art gallery in the middle of the skyscrapers of a bustling urban city.  I would probably buy every piece in this collection.

VIDEO RUNWAY: Althea Harper Fall/Winter 2010

One word – DARKNESS.  Beginning the show with a dedication to her mentor, the late Lee McQueen, Althea’s show hit the intimate audience in the Sundaram Tagore Gallery with all the dark, shadowy, yet sexy, images one can only dream about. Models slipped by onlookers with slicked hair, pale skin, and black lips adorned in dark, see-thru cut outs, and hip hugging dresses.  Each look was paired with over sized metallic ball necklaces and a hint of skin here and there.  Sort of repetitive towards the end, but overall, you can tell why she picked the mentor that she did.

MOMENTS OF HALSTON: Sarah Jessica Parker

SJP arrived just in time for the Halson show yesterday, wearing, of course, Halston. The fashionista is the creative director of the house and will help design the brand’s lower priced “Halston Heritage” line.

RUNWAY: Rad Hourani Fall 2010

There are some shows that you just know are going to be amazing fashion week after fashion week, Rad Hourani is one of them. Going into the show my expectations were eagerly high, but not only were they met they were blown out of the water. A familiar swarm of black and leather looks marched down the runway at Milk Studios for the first half of the show, then a series of super shiny patent leather looks followed that resulted in jaws hitting the floor. While I could easily write at least another eight sentences about the collection it’s easier just to say that it was near perfection. Don’t believe me? Check out the gallery! (more…)

RUNWAY: Odyn Vovk Fall 2010

Odyn Vovk ruins my fashion week season after season, but in the best way possible of course. His collections and shows are always so good nothing else compares for the rest of the week. It was also good to see so many friends on the runway too! Congrats to Cole, Ethan, Will and of course designer Austin Sherbanenko. (more…)

RUNWAY: Zac Posen Fall/Winter 2010

You can imagine my excitement when we ran into Zac last night on the street (check out Twitter) after finishing dinner at La Esquina. His anticipated fall 2010 collection, which I had to wake up way early for to make the show by 9am, was very festive, with many bright colors and prints, and leg friendly dresses, quite a turn from his usual floor sweeping gowns. Tons of fur, so much that even the shoes, made custom by Manolo Blahnik, had fur!

Watch a great video of the collection here.
