The makers of the Maakai Bag come with a lot of baggage. In this Kenyan tribe, it is common for women to be married off at 10 or 11, denied an education, and widowed at a young age. So the widows got together under The Pencil Promise and began constructing backpacks with the wool of their herds and the colors of their warriors.
