On this Veterans Day we salute our soldiers who risked their lives in camouflage to save ours. With a formal 21 Garment Salute, we thank our veterans with a nod to the print that got them through the toughest battlegrounds. Turns out, camo is actually a stand out of the season.
Turtlenecks can have some people running for the hills. From thoughts of ugly Christmas sweaters to what your grandmother use to make you wear, turtlenecks kind of have a bad rep. But from what we’ve seen on recent runways and celebrities like Alexa Chung and Gwen Stefani, turtlenecks are coming back with a vengeance.
Like the fiery scarf we found yesterday, and the burning New York Fall runways we told you about six months ago, orange is shaping up to be one of the hottest colors of the season. Are you noticing more of red and yellow’s love child in your wardrobe? See if any of these finds spur your love of the cheerful hue, that also happens to fuel our minds toward dressing up for Halloween. But this color trend is no spook.
Milan is feeling a little matrimonial. We’re seeing white lace just barely covering nearly every Italian Spring ’13 runway. My doily eyes perked up first at Missoni, and had a feeling there’d be more. Lo and behold, 10 shows later, we’re laden down in the the lightest lace. We witnessed lacy goodness in Austin this summer, but now Italy owns it.
It’s sophomore geometry class meets art history. One of our favorite fall runway trends is jutting into our closets right now. We found 10 ways to cut up your wardrobe from Proenza Schouler to Topshop to some indies over at Carnet de Mode. Get your mathematically inclined art on here.
While you may think corsets are a thing of the past, many designers from Dolce & Gabbana to Rodarte see the body shaper as a must-have for Spring ’13. Only now, we’re wearing them on the outside. Perhaps the indie label, Chromat, which makes outer-body corsets that Madonna loves (to flash her boobs in) is playing into this runway busting trend?
Like vines slinking up the side of a whitewashed house, Italian designers have been putting forth sparse long-stemmed flowers to creep up the princess seam. This game is all on the sidelines, though. These are decidedly not the same florals as we saw all over Spring ’12.
For the past few weeks we’ve been all spring spring spring spring spring. It’s the kind distraction Fashion provides for us as we face autumn, but I’m excited for Fall! The layering! The sweaters! The super long jackets! Let’s remember the trends we got excited about six months ago, like leg bombs and the resurrection of Daria. Looking forward to trying them tomorrow for the fall equinox? Or are you already ready for spring?
The 90s are back. Yes we’re sure. Everyone knows it. Even my roommates can’t stop watching Twin Peaks and My So Called Life, and Clueless is cued up on the Netflix. Whatever. That’s why we’re not all that surprised to see our favorite word of the 90s splattered across runways, and up on our heads with a new VFiles collab.
Lady Gaga‘s holding on tight to the most inappropriate word. After the Phillip Treacy show, when Mother Monster sported a cape of a half dozen Adrienne Landau fox tails, she also clutched a pink and yellow clutch with the glittering word that’s becoming chicer and chicer by the freakin’ moment. We were gagging when we heard the word on Asher Levine‘s runway. We were like W8WTF when we saw it on Zebra Katz. And we flipped when we saw someone fisting it at David Barton’s Gym. C’mon ladies, you know the word, and we’re taking it back.
