Scientists Find a Diamond Planet Two Times the Size of Earth

It looks like Tiffany & Co must have been wishing on a star. A giant diamond star. The NY Post and scientists are reporting that they have found a planet two times the size of Earth made almost entirely out of diamonds.

Scientists Find a Diamond Planet Two Times the Size of Earth

While Blake Lively flips off her engagement ring finger in the general direction of space, scientists are reporting that they have found a diamond planet two times the size of Earth.

The planet is relatively close to home (if you consider 230 trillion miles away close) and therefore scientists have been able to examine what the surface of the planet may be made out of. Chemically the planet runs at 3,900 degrees Fahrenheit and has been named “55 Cancri e“.

“The surface of this planet is likely covered in graphite and diamond rather than water and granite”, stated a Yale researcher who also estimated that at least of a third of the planet’s mass could be comprised of diamond. Translation, it would equal at least three of Earth’s masses. Three Earth’s made of diamonds.

Someone get us on a spaceship now. See you guys in 60 years and we’ll the richest people on this planet. Thanks, diamond world. See you later, Earth.

If we were mining jewels off of the diamond planet, then maybe this diamond encrusted gown wouldn’t be named The World’s Most Expensive Dress, but until then it is valued at $5.7 million.
