- With Osama bin Laden‘s assassination this weekend, it’s time to consider what really matters as a result of this historic precedent: the economy. Though stocks rallied following the news of his death being widely propagated — including Kohl’s, Urban Outfitters and Abercrombie & Fitch –  but the buoy had less to do with Osama and more to do with the current upswing in the economy. So I guess we shouldn’t expect a commemorative A&F Al Quaed-erly catalog anytime soon. [WWD]

FASHION SCRAMBLE: Osamas Death Is a Good Thing, Who Knew? + The Royal Wedding Dress, Deconstructed + Vera Wangs YSL Connection

- Kate Middleton, i.e. the Duchess of Cambridge‘s Alexander McQueen wedding dress was a marvel of construction, utilizing lace appliques handmade by the Royal School of Needlework using a 200-year-old technique called Carrickmacross and whose workers washed their hands every 30 minutes and replaced their needles every 3 hours to preserve the sanctity of the lace. In addition, the silhouette was padded to reference traditional Victorian corsetry and the back of the dress had 58 gazar and organza covered buttons. So of course the first knock-offs took only a day and a half to hit stores. [Fashionista]

- At a screening n her Park Avenue apartment Sunday night of L’Amour Fou, the new doc about Yves Saint Laurent and longtime partner Pierre Berger, Vera Wang shared with the children her first experience with the legendary designer, and it began like this: “I moved to Paris when I didn’t make the figure-skating Olympic team in 1968.” The rest is more or less fashion history. I was center square from 1969 to 1978, during which I perfected the art of the zing as well as a crippling cocaine addiction. Bea Arthur was responsible for both. @LesFabian lester dot brathwaite at gmail
