Harper’s Bazaar has had some serious work done and she is looking good. Glenda Bailey is determined that nobody put her baby in the corner and has revealed a new look for the magazine beginning with the March issue. Harper’s is now one inch larger with thicker paper, new typograhy and features — and who better to launch the makeover than Bailey’s favorite cover girl, Gwyneth Paltrow? Photographed by Terry Richardson, the striking subscriber cover features Gwyneth with her face obscured by her flowing golden locks while giving body and leg for days in a revealing dress by relatively unknown designer Anthony Vaccarello.
“It’s a very daring thing to do, where you don’t immediately see her face.” Bailey told WWD, adding for good measure, “As you know, I was the first to develop this two-cover approach.” Let ‘em know Glen.
While still fourth among fashion pubs in ad pages, the March issue saw a 15.5% increase with new advertisers including Tom Ford, Hervé Léger and Alberta Ferretti. Between those ads you’ll notice new features such as “The List” — “the ultimate list of things to be aware of this month,” according to Bailey — a monthly travel column called “The Escape,” an expanded beauty section, more news and Derek Blasberg‘s previously online only “Best-Dressed List” makes its way to a monthly column.
