When we heard that fashion designer turned photographer Hedi Slimane was for Stefano Pilati at YSL last spring, we wanted photographic proof of how Hedi was going to reinvent the famous French label. Now that we have it, but it’s not taking us in the direction we want it t0.
And here you have it, the first campaign image from the new St. Laurent Paris takeover shot by Hedi Slimane. Last spring it was announced that the fashion photographer/designer would takeover Stefano Pilati’s position at Yves Saint Laurent. His first fashion week is just around the corner on October 1st at Paris Fashion Week, but we’re too impatient to wait another month to see what he has in store.
Until then, the first campaign image that debuts in Vogue Hommes Japan today will have to keep us busy. Unfortunately, the ad lacks any sort of indication as to where Hedi is taking the iconic brand.
Th ad stars Christopher Owens who was the frontrunner of former indie band Girls shirtless and lounging on a pillow. The Saint Laurent Paris insignia takes up the left page and well, that’s it. Luckily, WWD reports that there will be 15 more images to come and that this is just the first taste.
It looks like we’ll have to bide our time until the full Saint Laurent Paris debuts and nothing fuels our fire more than some good speculation. With the former indie rocker from Girls starring in the ad, will Saint Laurent Paris had have a modern rocker edge? We sure hope so. Is this campaign offering any help to our fellow Indies? Sound off in the comments sil vous plait.
