Louise Goldin‘s show was late in starting, even by Fashion Week standards where it’s generally understood that if a show is slated for 6:45 it wouldn’t start before 7:15.
But 7:15 came and went so something had to be amiss. Then at 7:21 a fuss was officially as a crowd of photographers gathered around the reason for the delay. The girl sitting next to me exclaimed, “Oh shit is that Kanye?”
‘Twas. Kanye West and girlfriend Kim Kardashian showed up at Milk Studios after taking in the Marchesa show earlier that day, both looking comfy and casual. After they took their seats, the lights went down and the real show began.
While Kimye’s appearance at Goldin’s first collection in two years was a surprise, once the first few looks came onto the runway, their reason for coming was not. Goldin’s geometric shapes lent a futuristic vibe punctuated by simple lines and a mostly neutral color palette with touches of cerulean and coral. In short, it was cool with a just enough of an edge to mark a strong return for the designer.
After Goldin’s final bow, Kanye and Kim went backstage to congratulate the designer and maybe pick out a few things for one — or both — of their wardrobes.
