Karl Lagerfeld rode Baptiste Giabiconi all the way to Macy’s Herald Square on Tuesday for the official launch of his capsule collection for the department store’s Impulse line. Lying through his rottening teeth, Uncle Karl said he was flattered and surprised by “how much of the very young public” turned out to see him. What can I say, the kids love Karl.
While at Macy’s, the Chanel and Fendi designer extolled his love for department stores, claiming that he knows “everything” about them, particularly the American variety: “My name was made in America by department stores. I have a certain weakness for department stores.” As do I. Give me a one-stop shop so I can avoid being around people as much as possible, thank you and goodbye.
As for his collection, it’s apparently flying off the shelf– much like the Kaiser’s diffusion line for H&M. According to Terry Lundgren, big boss man of Macy’s, they were “blown away by the sell-throughs with Karl. Even before his p.a. [public appearance], we did more than $1 million in sales.”
What can I say, the kids love a high collar and a printed tee. [WWD]
