Nina Garcia Named the Creative Director of Marie Claire
It’s as if our major fashion magazines haven’t been switching up enough around us. Announced via Hearst Corporation’s Twitter account, former W employee Alex Gonzales is named artistic director of Marie Claire while Project Runway judge Nina Garcia has been promoted to creative director.
Magazine maven Nina Garcia has got herself a promotion on her hands. Congratulations look to be in order as Nina was just named the Creative Director of Marie Claire. Accompanied with this announcement, Hearst Corporation released through their Twitter that Alex Gonzales, formerly of W Magazine, will also be named the artistic director.
Nina got her start at Elle working as an Assistant Stylist and Market Editor until she moved her way on up to the title of Fashion Director in 2000. She was then promoted to editor-at-large of Elle in 2004 until the end of August 2008 when she moved on to become the Fashion Director of Marie Claire. And now new editor-in-chief Anne Fulenwider has appointed Nina this position.
Anne Fulenwider reveals her excitement for the new heads of the creative team in a statement, “Alex and Nina are both inspired visual storytellers, and I am excited about what they will each bring to this new phase in Marie Claire’s evolution, Alex’s impeccable taste and discerning eye will add a fresh point of view, and Nina truly embodies Marie Claire from a fashion and style perspective.”
Looks like if the print world is smart, they will keep switching things up to combat the online publishing industry. At least with Nina at the head, Marie Claire can officially begin to make things work.
Are you still confused about who’s heading what now? Fashion magazines played a little game of musical chairs back in September. Keep track of who is now heading Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire here.
